Journal ArticleDOI

Performance evaluation of endrills

TL;DR: In this paper, the performance of a relatively new type of drill called an endrill which is a cross between a drill and an endmill was evaluated. But, the results were limited to a single hole.
Journal ArticleDOI

Wear mechanisms in coated carbide tools

TL;DR: In this paper, micrographic evidence is presented which shows the retention of thin, 5μm carbide coating even when the "crater" depth far exceeds the original coating thickness.
Journal ArticleDOI

Surface integrity studies on the grinding, lapping and polishing processes for optical products

TL;DR: In this article, aspherical and spherical surfaces on silicon, silicon carbide and glass were evaluated for surface integrity, residual stresses, and sub-surface damage using X-ray stress analysis.
Journal ArticleDOI

Bore finishing—The ballizing process

TL;DR: In this paper, a mathematical model is proposed for the prediction of the final diameters of the ballized hole and good agreement is found with experimental observations, in order to enable a quick determination of the values of the relevant parameters in order for a specified part-diameter to be achieved.
Journal ArticleDOI

The effect of multiple pass cutting on surface integrity when hard turning of AISI D2 cold work tool steel

TL;DR: AISI D2 steel of 60 HRC hardness was turned with PVD TiN coated ceramic tools (Al2O3/TiCN) as mentioned in this paper, and transgranular cracks occurred with multiple pass turning that was also accompanied by an increase in compressive stresses.
