Journal ArticleDOI

A gel electrophoretic analysis of proteins from plants infected with tobacco mosaic and potato spindle tuber viruses.

Milton Zaitlin, +1 more
- 01 Feb 1972 -
TL;DR: In extracts of PSTV-infected tomato plants no proteins of a molecular weight expected for a virus coat protein were detected, lending support to the conclusion that no protein-containing virions are produced by this unusual virus.
Journal ArticleDOI

Proteins in tobacco mosaic virus-infected tobacco plants.

TL;DR: Tobacco mosaic virus-infected leaf tissue was exposed to 3 H-leucine following a treatment with actinomycin D and at least four polypeptides were either engendered or stimulated in diseased tissue; one of these was the coat protein.
Journal ArticleDOI

A temperature-sensitive mutant of TMV with unstable coat protein.

TL;DR: The coat protein isolated from the virus differed from common strain protein in that it was stable only in low ionic strength buffers at neutral pH, did not aggregate very readily into virus-like rods, and denatured readily when aggregated at low pH.
Journal ArticleDOI

Insoluble coat protein mutants of TMV: their origin, and characterization of the defective coat proteins.

TL;DR: One of the mutants (PM2I) was found with increasing frequency in plants infected with defective mutant PM2 (which engenders a soluble defective coat protein in its host) when the plants were grown at elevated temperatures.
