Os silos sao utilizados para armazenamento de grao e/ou produtos pulverulentos alimenticios mantendo as caracteristicas fisicas dos produtos armazenados. Para tanto, o estudo das pressoes durante o processo de carregamento, armazenamento e descarregamento do produto sao imprescindiveis para manutencao da integridade do silo. O trabalho tem por objetivo a comparacao das pressoes horizontais durante o processo de carregamento entre a situacao de silo baixo (relacao altura/diâmetro = h/d = 1) e silo esbelto (relacao altura/diâmetro = h/d = 4). Para tanto foi utilizado um silo vertical elevado, composto por corpo e tremonha em aco inox com 2.50 m de altura e 0.64 m de diâmetro com 10 -3 m de espessura. Para aquisicao dos dados, foram utilizadas celulas de carga fixadas a parede do silo e conectadas ao datalogger Spider 8.0 , com dados processados pelo Catman 4.5 . O produto armazenado foi o milho com repeticao do processo de carregamento em quintuplicata para as duas relacoes h/d. Por resultados obteve-se que quanto maior a relacao h/d, maiores as pressoes durante o carregamento na area mais proxima a zona de transicao entre o corpo do silo e a tremonha. Na relacao h/d igual a 1, a representacao das pressoes horizontais foi praticamente constante. Palavras chave : Silos verticais, pressoes de carregamento, relacao h/d.

In the paper the main results of experimental investigations made by the author on distribution of static pressure from granular material in a covered capacity structure are presented. The investigations were conducted on the small-sized steel constructions and provided for the variation both a row of constructive parameters of the experimental installation and the types of granular material.

Experimental studies of static behavior of granular media in the capacitive structure

Purpose  The paper aims: 1) qualitative assessment of the nature of the container corrugated wall deformation caused by the load from bulk materials 2) determination of the horizontal pressure redistribution scheme for each individual corrugation plate and the calculation method that is closer to the real situation 3) obtaining the quantitative deformation indicators to compare them with the calculated ones produced by means of mathematical model simulation Methodology  To achieve this purpose the different types of capacitive structure profiles were investigated and the values of total vertical displacement under load were obtained The computational experiment used the design computer system Structure CAD for Windows In addition, the laboratory experiment was conducted, the analysis of which is important to confirm the correctness of pre-made computer models Findings  The conducted experiment allowed receiving the confirmation of the FEM calculated data, namely qualitatively and quantitatively the deformation direction and nature completely repeated the design situation in SCAD The work of corrugated profile was analysed for different theoretically possible load schemes and different calculation methods  Also the work contains the recommendations for the real calculation using computer simulation  During a joint study the authors obtained the data that allow for more accurate assessment of the corrugated profile performance under the pressure from bulk materials Originality The conducted research and experimental tests explain and clarify the ways for possible redistribution of bulk material pressure on each corrugation plate, while there is no such information in the existing recommendation literature and regulatory framework concerning the capacitive structure design Practical value The use of the proposed solutions is useful for correct design of containers with corrugated walls during further calculations and search of new directions for future research

Experimental study of horizontal pressure distribution on corrugated steel silo walls

Purpose. The work sets forth the search results of new, more efficient design solutions for metal silos, namely, the analysis of existing types of profiles cross-section in a steel wall of such silo and development of less material-intensive section of corrugated profile. Methodology. To achieve the set goal there were researched the existing types of capacitive structure profiles and their strain-stress state under the load. The analysis was performed on the results of computational experiments. The prototype object was mathematical computer models. The calculations were made using the finite-element method. For computational experiment there was used the design-computing system Structure CAD for Windows. Findings. In this work there were obtained the data allowing to assess work of the profiles and to find more effective type of cross-section in terms of its material consumption. In the process of joint study of the authors a new type of profile for capacitive structures was developed; it has higher utilization efficiency and the attachment point of individual steel sheets with this type of profile. Both solutions are easy to install, reliable in operation and can be manufactured in the conditions of modern industrial production using standard equipment, materials and components. Originality. A new type of corrugated profile cross-section for steel silo walls was proposed; it has higher load carrying capacity and rigidity and allows reducing the metal thickness without changing the structure carrying capacity that results in material consumption reduction of the whole structure. For this and similar types of profiles there was designed and proposed the attachment point of individual corrugated sheets screwed with extending flange, which enables the unit connection in case of small size corrugations, where the distance is not sufficient to accommodate the bolt cap between the individual corrugations. Practical value. Application of the proposed solutions can increase efficiency, manufacturability and maintainability of steel silo wall structures. The results obtained during the research show promise for further development of research on finding new and more economic solutions for corrugated steel silo wall design, as well as other ways to reduce material consumption of bulk material storage structures.
