The role of microRNAs in respiratory viral infection: friend or foe?
Alireza Tahamtan,Christopher S. Inchley,Mona Marzban,Masoumeh Tavakoli-Yaraki,Majid Teymoori-Rad,Britt Nakstad,Britt Nakstad,Vahid Salimi +7 more
TL;DR: A comprehensive review of recent findings related to the role of miRNAs in different respiratory viral infections is presented and possible therapeutic opportunities aiming to attenuate the burden of viral infections are discussed.
Journal ArticleDOI
Opioid receptors control viral replication in the airways.
Vahid Salimi,Marije P. Hennus,Talat Mokhtari-Azad,Fazel Shokri,Riny Janssen,Hennie M. Hodemaekers,Tomasz P. Rygiel,Frank E. J. Coenjaerts,Linde Meyaard,Louis Bont +9 more
TL;DR: It is shown that opioid receptor signaling is required to control respiratory syncytial virus replication and thereby to control disease severity, and it is also shown that caution is required before using pharmaceutical opioids as anti-inflammatory or antiviral treatment of patients with viral respiratory infection.
Journal ArticleDOI
COVID-19: Why does disease severity vary among individuals?
Saeed Samadizadeh,Maha Masoudi,Mostafa Rastegar,Vahid Salimi,Mahsa Bataghva Shahbaz,Alireza Tahamtan +5 more
TL;DR: In this article, the authors pointed out the essential influential factors related to the host, virus, and environment affecting the clinical outcome of COVID-19, which leads to different clinical outcomes.
Journal ArticleDOI
Disease severity in respiratory syncytial virus infection: Role of host genetic variation
TL;DR: The findings clearly indicate that the response of each individual to infection is influenced by genetic diversity mainly linked to the regulation of host immune responses, which affects the balance between control of viral replication and tissue damage during RSV infection.
Journal ArticleDOI
First Cases of SARS-CoV-2 in Iran, 2020: Case Series Report
Jila Yavarian,Nazanin-Zahra Shafiei-Jandaghi,Kaveh Sadeghi,Somayeh Shatizadeh Malekshahi,Vahid Salimi,Ahmad Nejati,Fatemeh Ajaminejad,Nastaran Ghavvami,Fatemeh Saadatmand,Saeedeh Mahfouzi,Ghazal Fatemi-Nasab,Najmeh Parhizgari,Akramsadat Ahmadi,Kobra Pasha Pashabeyg razavi,Soad Ghabeshi,Mostafa Saberian,Elham Zanjani,Fatemeh Namazi,Tayebeh Shahbazi,Farshid Rezaie,Hosseinn Erfani,Mohammad Mehdi Gouya,Mohammad Nasr Dadras,Talat Mokhtari Azad +23 more
TL;DR: The clinical and epidemiological features of the first cases of SARS-CoV-2 confirmed in Iran are described and future research should focus on finding the routes of transmission for this virus, including the possibility of transmission from foreign tourists.
