Journal ArticleDOI
Plasticenta: First evidence of microplastics in human placenta.
Antonio Ragusa,Alessandro Svelato,Criselda Santacroce,Piera Catalano,Valentina Notarstefano,Oliana Carnevali,Fabrizio Papa,Mauro Rongioletti,Federico Baiocco,Simonetta Draghi,Elisabetta D’Amore,Denise Rinaldo,Maria Matta,Elisabetta Giorgini +13 more
TL;DR: Six human placentas, collected from consenting women with physiological pregnancies, were analyzed by Raman Microspectroscopy to evaluate the presence of microplastics, finding 12 microplastic fragments, with spheric or irregular shape, in total.
Journal ArticleDOI
Raman Microspectroscopy Detection and Characterisation of Microplastics in Human Breastmilk
Antonio Ragusa,Valentina Notarstefano,Alessandro Svelato,Alessia Belloni,Giorgia Gioacchini,Christine Blondeel,E. Zucchelli,Caterina De Luca,Sara D’Avino,Alessandra Gulotta,Oliana Carnevali,Elisabetta Giorgini +11 more
TL;DR: The most abundant microplastics were composed of polyethylene, polyvinyl chloride, and polypropylene, with sizes ranging from 2 to 12 µm, and the detected microparticles were classified according to their shape, color, dimensions, and chemical composition as mentioned in this paper .
Journal ArticleDOI
Dietary administration of EDC mixtures: A focus on fish lipid metabolism.
Oliana Carnevali,Valentina Notarstefano,Ike Olivotto,M. Graziano,Pasquale Gallo,I. Di Marco Pisciottano,Lisa Vaccari,Alberta Mandich,Elisabetta Giorgini,Francesca Maradonna +9 more
TL;DR: The results obtained at hepatic level pinpointed the steatotic effect of all the administered diets, associated to a modulation of the expression of genes involved in lipid metabolism, indicating that the administration of mixture of contaminants exerts a milder lipogenic effect, highlighting the contrasting/antagonistic interaction establishing among chemicals.
Journal ArticleDOI
Effects of diethylene glycol dibenzoate and Bisphenol A on the lipid metabolism of Danio rerio.
Stefania Santangeli,Valentina Notarstefano,Francesca Maradonna,Elisabetta Giorgini,Giorgia Gioacchini,Isabel Forner-Piquer,Hamid R. Habibi,Oliana Carnevali +7 more
TL;DR: Analysis of BPA and DGB by FT-IR revealed that exposure to both compounds lead to changes in the biochemical composition of liver, providing a support for the hypothesis that BPAand DGB may be among the environmental contaminants with obesogenic property.
Journal ArticleDOI
Effects of diisononyl phthalate on Danio rerio reproduction.
Stefania Santangeli,Francesca Maradonna,Maya Zanardini,Valentina Notarstefano,Giorgia Gioacchini,Isabel Forner-Piquer,Hamid R. Habibi,Oliana Carnevali +7 more
TL;DR: Evidence is provided that exposure to DiNP adversely affect oocytes growth and maturation, leading to abnormal gonadal development and reproduction in zebrafish, provided by qPCR analysis, histology and Fourier transform infrared imaging.
