Journal ArticleDOI
Anatabine lowers Alzheimer's Aβ production in vitro and in vivo.
Daniel Paris,David Beaulieu-Abdelahad,Corbin Bachmeier,Jon Reed,Ghania Ait-Ghezala,Alex Bishop,Jin Chao,Venkat Mathura,Fiona Crawford,Michael Mullan +9 more
TL;DR: In this paper, anatabine, a minor alkaloid present in plants of the Solanacea family, was investigated in vitro using a cell line overexpressing the human amyloid precursor protein (APP) and in vivo using a transgenic mouse model of Alzheimer's disease.
Journal ArticleDOI
Brain-derived neurotropic factor polymorphisms, traumatic stress, mild traumatic brain injury, and combat exposure contribute to postdeployment traumatic stress.
Michael N. Dretsch,Michael N. Dretsch,Kathy Williams,Tanja Emmerich,Gogce Crynen,Ghania Ait-Ghezala,Helena Chaytow,Venkat Mathura,Fiona Crawford,Grant L. Iverson +9 more
TL;DR: This study explored the contribution of genetics, childhood environment, prior trauma, psychological, cognitive, and deployment factors to the development of traumatic stress following deployment.
Journal ArticleDOI
Apolipoprotein E genotype-specific short-term cognitive benefits of treatment with the antihypertensive nilvadipine in Alzheimer's patients--an open-label trial.
Sean Kennelly,Laila Abdullah,Rose Anne Kenny,Venkat Mathura,Cheryl A. Luis,Benoit Mouzon,Fiona Crawford,Michael Mullan,Brian A. Lawlor +8 more
TL;DR: Evidence suggests that dihydropyridine calcium channel blockers may be useful in preventing and treating Alzheimer's disease (AD).
Journal ArticleDOI
Flavonoids lower Alzheimer's Aβ production via an NFκB dependent mechanism.
Daniel Paris,Venkat Mathura,Ghania Ait-Ghezala,David Beaulieu-Abdelahad,Nikunj Patel,Corbin Bachmeier,Michael Mullan +6 more
TL;DR: It is shown that NFκB lowering flavonoids inhibit BACE-1 transcription in human neuronal SH-SY5Y cells and that flavonoid inhibit Aβ and sAPPβ production by regulating Bace-1 expression and not by directly inhibiting BACE.
Journal ArticleDOI
Amelioration of experimental autoimmune encephalomyelitis by anatabine.
Daniel Paris,David Beaulieu-Abdelahad,Myles Mullan,Ghania Ait-Ghezala,Venkat Mathura,Corbin Bachmeier,Fiona Crawford,Michael Mullan +7 more
TL;DR: It is found that orally administered anatabine markedly suppressed neurological deficits associated with EAE and may be effective in the treatment of MS and should be piloted in clinical trials.
