Journal ArticleDOI
Responses of the extracellular enzyme activities in hardwood forest to soil temperature and seasonality and the potential effects of climate change
Petr Baldrian,Jaroslav Šnajdr,Věra Merhautová,Petra Dobiášová,Tomáš Cajthaml,Vendula Valášková +5 more
TL;DR: In this article, the authors explored the effects of soil temperature and seasonality on the sizes of extracellular enzyme pools and activities in a temperate hardwood forest soil with dominant Quercus petraea (cambisol, mean annual temperature 9.3°C).
Journal ArticleDOI
Transformation of Quercus petraea litter: successive changes in litter chemistry are reflected in differential enzyme activity and changes in the microbial community composition.
Jaroslav Šnajdr,Tomáš Cajthaml,Vendula Valášková,Věra Merhautová,Mirka Petránková,Peter Spetz,Kaisu Leppänen,Petr Baldrian +7 more
TL;DR: It is shown that the dynamics of decomposition of individual litter components changes with time in accordance with the changes in the microbial community composition and its production of extracellular enzymes.
Journal ArticleDOI
Production of lignocellulose-degrading enzymes and degradation of leaf litter by saprotrophic basidiomycetes isolated from a Quercus petraea forest
Vendula Valášková,Jaroslav Šnajdr,Britta Bittner,Tomáš Cajthaml,Věra Merhautová,Martin Hofrichter,Petr Baldrian +6 more
TL;DR: Analytical pyrolysis mass spectrometry of litter decomposed by this fungus showed changes in the litter composition similar to those caused by white-rot fungi during wood decay, which can be explained by the participation of non-basidiomycetous fungi and bacteria during natural litter decomposition.
Journal ArticleDOI
Decolorization of synthetic dyes by hydrogen peroxide with heterogeneous catalysis by mixed iron oxides
Petr Baldrian,Věra Merhautová,Jiří Gabriel,F. Nerud,Pavel Stopka,Martin Hrubý,Milan J. Beneš +6 more
TL;DR: Heterogeneous catalysts based on magnetic mixed iron oxides were used for the decolorization of several synthetic dyes (Bromophenol Blue, Chicago Sky Blue, Cu Phthalocyanine, Eosin Yellowish, Evans Blue, Naphthol Blue Black, Phenol Red, Poly B-411, and Reactive Orange 16) as discussed by the authors.
Journal ArticleDOI
Production of extracellular enzymes and degradation of biopolymers by saprotrophic microfungi from the upper layers of forest soil
TL;DR: Comparison with saprotrophic basidiomycetes from the same environment showed that microfungi have similar cellulolytic capabilities and higher chitinase activities which testifies for their active role in the decomposition of both lignocellulose and dead fungal biomass, important pools of soil carbon.
