Journal ArticleDOI

A non-occluded, systemic baculovirus that occurs in cells of ectodermal and mesodermal origin and causes high mortality in the black tiger prawn Penaeus monodon.

TL;DR: In the course of experimental infection of Penaeus monodon wlth yellow-head virus [YHV) for virus isolation and purification, 1 batch of prawns yielded hemolymph fractions dominated by a previously undescribed non-occluded baculovirus rather than YHV, placing this virus in the family Baculoviridae, subfamily NudibacULovirinae as PmNOBII.
Journal ArticleDOI

Experimental transmission of white spot syndrome virus (WSSV) from crabs to shrimp Penaeus monodon.

TL;DR: These laboratory studies demonstrated that crab carriers of WSSV may pose a real threat to cultivated shrimp, however, the studies were carried out in containers with a small volume and with relatively clean sea water as compared to shrimp cultivation ponds.
Journal Article

Genetic structure in wild populations of black tiger shrimp (Penaeus monodon) using randomly amplified polymorphic DNA analysis.

TL;DR: Randomly amplified polymorphic DNA (RAPD) analysis was used to examine genetic variation in wild black tiger shrimp, Penaeus monodon, suggesting that genetic population structure does exist in this taxon.
Journal ArticleDOI

Yellow head virus from Thailand and gill-associated virus from Australia are closely related but distinct prawn viruses

TL;DR: The data indicate that GAV and YHV are closely related but distinct viruses for which differential diagnostic probes can be applied.
Journal ArticleDOI

DNA fragment of Penaeus monodon baculovirus PmNOBII gives positive in situ hybridization with white-spot viral infections in six penaeid shrimp species

TL;DR: The data indicate that PmNOBII, or closely related variants, are currently responsible for a widespread epizootic in the Asian shrimp farming industry.
