Journal ArticleDOI
Seasonal variation, chemical composition and biological activity of the essential oil of Cordia verbenacea DC (Boraginaceae) and the sabinene
Edinardo F.F. Matias,Erivania F. Alves,Maria Karollyna do Nascimento Silva,Victoria Regina de Alencar Carvalho,Fernando Gomes Figueredo,João Victor de Alencar Ferreira,Henrique Douglas Melo Coutinho,João Marcos Ferreira de Lima Silva,Jaime Ribeiro-Filho,José Galberto Martins da Costa +9 more
TL;DR: In this paper, the essential oil content with regard to time of collection of leaves and to evaluate the antibacterial activity and antibiotic-modifying activity of the oil against multidrug-resistant strains.
Journal ArticleDOI
The genus Cordia: botanists, ethno, chemical and pharmacological aspects
Edinardo F.F. Matias,Erivania F. Alves,Maria Karollyna do Nascimento Silva,Victoria Regina de Alencar Carvalho,Henrique Douglas Melo Coutinho,José Galberto Martins da Costa +5 more
TL;DR: The principal botanical aspects, ethnopharmacological information and evaluation of the bioactive and pharmacological properties of Cordia, its phytochemical constituents and the most common classes of secondary metabolites identified are described.
Journal ArticleDOI
Antibacterial and modifying-antibiotic activities of the essential oils of Ocimum gratissimum L. and Plectranthus amboinicus L.
José J. S. Aguiar,Cicera P.B. Sousa,Mariana K.A. Araruna,Maria Karollyna do Nascimento Silva,Aline da Costa Portelo,Jeferson da Costa Lopes,Victoria Regina de Alencar Carvalho,Fernando Gomes Figueredo,Vanessa de Carvalho Nilo Bitu,Henrique Douglas Melo Coutinho,Thiago Adolfo Sobreira Miranda,Edinardo F.F. Matias +11 more
TL;DR: The data obtained are promising, but further studies are needed to isolate the active compounds and to conduct pharmacological tests in vivo, making it possible to develop new therapeutic alternatives for the treatment of diseases caused by multiresistant microorganisms.
Journal ArticleDOI
Chemical Profile of Essential oil of Ocimum gratissimum L. and Evaluation of Antibacterial and Drug Resistance-modifying Activity by Gaseous Contact Method
Maria Karollyna do Nascimento Silva,Victoria Regina de Alencar Carvalho,Edinardo F.F. Matias +2 more
TL;DR: It is concluded that OEOg and Eugenol may eventually represent a new therapeutic tool against antibiotic-resistant bacteria.
Journal ArticleDOI
Potentiation of antibiotic activity of aminoglycosides by natural products from Cordia verbenacea DC.
Edinardo F.F. Matias,Erivania F. Alves,Maria Karollyna do Nascimento Silva,Victoria Regina de Alencar Carvalho,Cassio R. Medeiros,Francisco A. V. Santos,Vanessa de Carvalho Nilo Bitu,Celestina E.S. Souza,Fernando Gomes Figueredo,Aline Augusti Boligon,Margareth Linde Athayde,José Galberto Martins da Costa,Henrique Douglas Melo Coutinho +12 more
TL;DR: The data obtained from phytochemical analysis and from antibacterial and resistance modulation assays of C. verbenacea extracts new can open perspectives in the search for new alternatives for the treatment of bacterial infections and stimulate the renewed use of antibiotics with reduced effectiveness due to resistance.
