Phase transfer Pd(0) catalyzed polymerization reactions

TL;DR: In this article, 1,4-Bis[2-(4,4)-dialkoxyaryl)acetylenes were synthesized by a one pot phase transfer Pd(O)/Cu(I) catalyzed three-step coupling of 1, 4-diiodobenzene with 2-methyl-3-butyn-2-ol and the appropriate aryl halide.
Journal ArticleDOI

Molecular engineering of liquid crystal polymers by living polymerization: 12.Synthesis and living cationic polymerization of 4-[S(-)-2-methyl-1-butoxy]-4?-(?-oxyalkyl-1-vinyl ether)-?-methylstibene with octyl and hexyl alkyl groups

TL;DR: In this paper, the synthesis and living cationic polymerization of both monomers with the initiating system CF 3 SO 3 H/(CH 3 ) 2 S in methylene chloride at 0°C are described.
Journal ArticleDOI

Synthesis and characterization of liquid crystalline poly(p-vinylbenzyl ether)s

TL;DR: In this paper, the synthesis and characterization of poly(p-vinylbenzyl ether)s containing 4-oxybiphenyl or 4oxy-4′-methoxy-methyl mesogens, which are connected to the benzyl ether group through one, two or three oligo(oxyethylene) units, are presented.
Book ChapterDOI

From Synthetic Macromolecules to Biological-Like Complex Systems

TL;DR: In a discussion between the Emperor of Japan and Professor Staudinger on 17th of April 1957 at the Imperial Palace of Japan as discussed by the authors, the Emperor asked: "Is this a concept that came into your mind to explain various phenomenological behaviors of a group of compounds or did you really prove their existence by rigorous scientific means?"
Journal ArticleDOI

Molecular engineering of liquid-crystalline polymers by living polymerization. Part 16.—Tailor-made Sc* mesophase in copolymers of (S)-(–)-2-methylbutyl 4′-(ω-vinyloxyalkoxy)biphenyl-4-carboxylate with undecanyl and octyl alkyl groups

TL;DR: In this article, the synthesis and living cationic polymerization of (S)-( −)-2-methylbutyl 4′-(8-vinyloxyoctyloxy)biphenyl-4-carboxylate (14-8) have been described.
