Super-Compressible Foamlike Carbon Nanotube Films
Anyuan Cao,Anyuan Cao,Anyuan Cao,Pamela L. Dickrell,Pamela L. Dickrell,Pamela L. Dickrell,W. Gregory Sawyer,W. Gregory Sawyer,W. Gregory Sawyer,Mehrdad N. Ghasemi-Nejhad,Mehrdad N. Ghasemi-Nejhad,Mehrdad N. Ghasemi-Nejhad,Pulickel M. Ajayan,Pulickel M. Ajayan,Pulickel M. Ajayan +14 more
TL;DR: It is reported that freestanding films of vertically aligned carbon nanotubes exhibit super-compressible foamlike behavior, and the lightweight, highly resilient nanotube films may be useful as compliant and energy-absorbing coatings.
Journal ArticleDOI
A study on the friction and wear behavior of PTFE filled with alumina nanoparticles
TL;DR: In this article, a solid lubricant composite material was made by compression molding PTFE and 40nm alumina particles using a jet milling apparatus and tested against a polished stainless steel counterface on a reciprocating tribometer.
Journal ArticleDOI
Writing in the granular gel medium.
Tapomoy Bhattacharjee,Steven Zehnder,Kyle G. Rowe,Suhani Jain,Ryan Nixon,W. Gregory Sawyer,Thomas E. Angelini +6 more
TL;DR: With this method, silicones, hydrogels, colloids, and living cells are used to create complex large aspect ratio 3D objects, thin closed shells, and hierarchically branched tubular networks.
Journal ArticleDOI
Meeting the Contact-Mechanics Challenge
Martin H. Müser,Wolf B. Dapp,Romain Bugnicourt,Romain Bugnicourt,Philippe Sainsot,Nicolas Lesaffre,Ton Lubrecht,Bo N. J. Persson,Kathryn L. Harris,Alexander I. Bennett,Kyle D. Schulze,Sean Rohde,Peter Ifju,W. Gregory Sawyer,Thomas E. Angelini,Hossein Ashtari Esfahani,Mahmoud Kadkhodaei,Saleh Akbarzadeh,Jiunn-Jong Wu,G. Vorlaufer,András Vernes,Soheil Solhjoo,Antonis I. Vakis,Robert L. Jackson,Yang Xu,Jeffrey L. Streator,Amir Rostami,Daniele Dini,Simon Medina,Giuseppe Carbone,Francesco Bottiglione,Luciano Afferrante,Joseph Monti,Lars Pastewka,Lars Pastewka,Mark O. Robbins,J. A. Greenwood +36 more
TL;DR: In this article, the authors summarized the submissions to a recently announced contact-mechanics modeling challenge and provided both theorists and experimentalists with benchmarks to decide which method is the most appropriate for a particular application and to gauge the errors associated with each one.
Journal ArticleDOI
A low friction and ultra low wear rate PEEK/PTFE composite
TL;DR: In this article, a PEEK filled PTFE composite that exhibits low friction and ultra-low wear was presented, which is hypothesized that a synergistic effect shuts down the dominant wear mechanism of each constituent.
