Orbital-Assisted Metal-Insulator Transition in VO2
Maurits W. Haverkort,Zhiwei Hu,Arata Tanaka,W. Reichelt,Sergey V. Streltsov,M. A. Korotin,V. I. Anisimov,H. H. Hsieh,Hong-Ji Lin,C. T. Chen,D. I. Khomskii,Liu Hao Tjeng +11 more
TL;DR: These results strongly suggest that, in going from the metallic to the insulating state, the orbital occupation changes in a manner that charge fluctuations and effective bandwidths are reduced, that the system becomes more one dimensional and more susceptible to a Peierls-like transition.
Journal ArticleDOI
Transfer of spectral weight and symmetry across the metal-insulator transition in VO2
T. C. Koethe,Zhiwei Hu,Maurits W. Haverkort,Christian Schüßler-Langeheine,F. Venturini,N. B. Brookes,Oscar Tjernberg,W. Reichelt,H. H. Hsieh,Hong-Ji Lin,C. T. Chen,Liu Hao Tjeng +11 more
TL;DR: A giant transfer of spectral weight with distinct features that require an explanation which goes beyond the Peierls transition model as well as the standard single-band Hubbard model is observed.

Neutral 3d excitations in insulating VO2 as seen with resonant inelastic x-ray scattering at the VL3,2 edges
Lucio Braicovich,Giacomo Claudio Ghiringhelli,Liu Tjeng,Valentina Bisogni,Claudia Dallera,A. Piazzalunga,W. Reichelt,N. B. Brookes +7 more
TL;DR: In this paper, resonant inelastic x-ray scattering (RIXS) results on insulating monoclinic with excitation across the edges of vanadium were presented.
