Failure Mechanisms and Modes of Tunnels in Monoclinic and Soft-Hard Interbedded Rocks: A Case Study

TL;DR: Wang et al. as discussed by the authors systematically analyzed the failure mechanisms and modes of Muzhailing Tunnel in monoclinic and soft-hard interbedded rock strata, showing that the angle between strata strike and tunnel axis greatly determines the magnitude of deformation, the dip direction significantly controls the bias direction and maximum deformation direction, and the dip angle deeply affects the deformation form.
Journal ArticleDOI

Deformation Behaviors and Mechanical Mechanisms of Double Primary Linings for Large-Span Tunnels in Squeezing Rock: A Case Study

TL;DR: Wang et al. as mentioned in this paper studied the deformation behaviors and mechanical mechanisms of a large-span tunnel excavated in chlorite schist formation with single primary linings method and double primary lining method by in-situ test and numerical simulation.
Journal ArticleDOI

Nonlinear deformation behaviors and a new approach for the classification and prediction of large deformation in tunnel construction stage: a case study

TL;DR: An attempt is made to evaluate the importance of squeezing condition to avoid large deformation disaster in tunnels and to predict the intensity of the squeezing condition in the future.
Journal ArticleDOI

Mechanical characteristics of primary support of large span loess highway tunnel: A case study in Shaanxi Province, Loess Plateau, NW China primary

TL;DR: Wang et al. as discussed by the authors analyzed the deformation of 18 sections in Grade V rock mass and the primary support structural force of 2 sections in a case study of a highway loess tunnel in the large span loess highway tunnel group of Huangyan Traffic Capacity Expansion Engineering in Northern Shaanxi Province-Jianzicha No.2 Tunnel.
Journal ArticleDOI

Deformation Evolution and Failure Mechanism of Monoclinic and Soft-Hard Interbedded Strata: Study of Muzhailing Tunnel

TL;DR: The large deformation issue in soft rock mass is a worldwide difficulty that has puzzled tunnel engineering for a century and a half as discussed by the authors, and previous studies have mainly focused on a large deforma...
