Journal ArticleDOI
Cellular hydration state: an important determinant of protein catabolism in health and disease
TL;DR: It is postulate that a decrease in cellular hydration in liver and skeletal muscle triggers the protein catabolic states that accompany various diseases.
Journal ArticleDOI
Proton magnetic resonance spectroscopy studies on human brain Myo-inositol in hypo-osmolarity and hepatic encephalopathy
Dieter Häussinger,Jörg Laubenberger,Stephan vom Dahl,Thomas Ernst,Stephan Bayer,Mathias Langer,Wolfgang Gerok,Jürgen Hennig +7 more
TL;DR: The 1H-MR spectroscopic myo-inositol signal in the human brain predominantly reflects an osmosensitive inositol pool, and it is hypothesized that its depletion in latent hepatic encephalopathy points to a disturbance of cell volume homeostasis in the brain as an early pathogenetic event.
Journal ArticleDOI
Transjugular intrahepatic portacaval stent shunt: Preliminary clinical results
Goetz M. Richter,G. Noeldge,Julio C. Palmaz,Martin Roessle,Volker Slegerstetter,Martina Franke,Wolfgang Gerok,W. Wenz,Edward Farthman +8 more
TL;DR: Two of three patients with life-threatening variceal bleeding and Child C liver cirrhosis and one patient in severe hepatorenal failure prior to the procedure died 11 days after the shunt procedure of pulmonary complications.
Journal ArticleDOI
Regulation of interleukin-6 expression in cultured human blood monocytes and monocyte-derived macrophages
Joachim Bauer,Ursula Ganter,Thomas Geiger,U Jacobshagen,Toshio Hirano,Tadashi Matsuda,Tadamitsu Kishimoto,Tilo Andus,G Acs,Wolfgang Gerok +9 more
TL;DR: Cell of the mononuclear phagocyte lineage are one of the main sites of BSF-2/IL-6 (interferon-beta 2/26 kd protein/HSF) synthesis, which is more than ten times stronger than in terminally differentiated macrophages.
Journal ArticleDOI
In vivo inhibition of duck hepatitis B virus replication and gene expression by phosphorothioate modified antisense oligodeoxynucleotides.
W.-B. Offensperger,S Offensperger,E. Walter,K Teubner,Gabor L. Igloi,Hubert E. Blum,Wolfgang Gerok +6 more
TL;DR: The inhibition of duck hepatitis B virus by antisense oligodeoxynucleotides in primary duck hepatocyte cultures in vitro as well as in DHBV‐infected Pekin ducks in vivo is reported.
