Pressure-induced silicon coordination and tetrahedral structural changes in alkali oxide-silica melts up to 12 GPa: NMR, Raman, and infrared spectroscopy

TL;DR: The 29 Si and 23 Na NMR, Raman and infrared spectra of glasses quenched from liquids at pressures up to 12 GPa for three alkali silicate compositions (Na 2 Si 2 O 5, Na 2 Si 4 O 9, K 2 Si O 9 ) and silica (SiO 2 ) reveal systematic changes in the melt structure with pressure.
Journal ArticleDOI

Silicon coordination and speciation changes in a silicate liquid at high pressures.

TL;DR: Pressure-induced changes from fourfold to sixfold coordination of Si in silicate glass samples quenched from liquids has been detected with 29Si magic-angle spinning nuclear magnetic resonance spectrometry.
Journal ArticleDOI

Dissolution mechanisms of water in depolymerized silicate melts: Constraints from 1H and 29Si NMR spectroscopy and ab initio calculations

TL;DR: In this article, the 1H and 29Si nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectroscopic techniques were applied to hydrous silicate glasses (quenched melts) in the CaO-MgO-SiO2 (CMS), Na2O-S2O 2, Na2S2, NaO-CaO-O 2 and Li2OSiO 2 systems, and the most prominent result is the identification of a major peak at ∼ 1.1 to 1.7 ppm for all the hydrous CMS glasses.
Journal ArticleDOI

Proton Distributions and Hydrogen Bonding in Crystalline and Glassy Hydrous Silicates and Related Inorganic Materials: Insights from High-Resolution Solid-State Nuclear Magnetic Resonance Spectroscopy

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors present updated correlations between 1 H chemical shift and O ··· O and H ··· o distances of O-H · − O hydrogen bonds, derived from a comprehensive 1H chemical shift database containing both original high-quality fast magic angle spinning (MAS) and two-dimensional combined rotation and multiple pulse spectroscopy (CRAMPS)-MAS NMR data and literature MAS NMRI data for a large number of inorganic compounds, including phosphates, silicates, (oxy)hydroxides, borates, sulfates, and
Journal ArticleDOI

Structure of hydrous aluminosilicate glasses along the diopside-anorthite join : A comprehensive one-and two-dimensional 1H and 27Al NMR study

TL;DR: In this paper, a series of quenched anhydrous and hydrous glass samples along the diopside (Di, CaMgSi2O6) join with varying An components (0, 20, 38, 60, 80, and 100 ǫ%) have been studied.
