Climate Change 1995 is a scientific assessment that was generated by more than 1 000 contributors from over 50 nations. It was jointly co-ordinated through two international agencies; the World Meteorological Organization and the United Nations Environment Programme. The assessment was completed by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) with a primary aim of reviewing the current state of knowledge concerning the impacts of climate change on physical and ecological systems, human health, and socioeconomic factors. The second aim was to review the available information on the technical and economic feasibility of the potential mitigation and adaptation strategies.

Experimental investigation and modelling of the hydrate formation kinetics based on hydrate pore-scale distribution in porous media

Heat and mass transfer in a natural gas hydrate reservoir is strongly affected by the hydrate pore habit. Some present simplified models used in numerical simulation of a hydrate-bearing sediment are difficult to catch features of the hydrate distribution in sediments precisely. Using an improved multiple-point geostatistics simulation method, this study generates a series of images of porous media that reproduce the hydrate distribution information on a training image. The improved algorithm completely solves the problem that the hydrate blocks the boundary and makes the variogram and visual properties similar to the training image. Some typical phenomena of hydrate formation appear in the results, such as Ostwald ripening and the shift of hydrate pore habit from grain coating toward pore filling. The feasibility of predicting the pore habit of a hydrate with time using this novel method is proven by the verification case. This study offers a new approach to predict the distribution behavior of a hydrate, and this algorithm may be applied widely by scanning training images from different reservoirs. 

Multiple-Point Geostatistics Simulation of the Natural Gas Hydrate Distribution at the Pore Scale

A gas-liquid separation apparatus suitable for gas hydrate slurry, comprising an upper chamber, a middle chamber, and a lower chamber; a gas-phase outlet and a pressurizing unit are disposed in a top of the upper chamber, the middle chamber is provided with a material inlet and a wire mesh demister, and the lower chamber is provided with a liquid-phase outlet and a plurality of deflector baffles. The arrangement of divided chambers can reduce the degree of hydrate dissociation in the slurry (i.e., loss of the sought gas) and improve the separation efficiency. With the pressurizing unit, it facilitates the setting of the required pressure for gas-liquid separation without introducing a pressure maintaining valve in the subsequent separation process, prevents the hydrate in the slurry from dissociating in the apparatus, and allows rapid separation between the slurry and the gas.

The invention discloses an application of tetrahydrothiophene as a hydrate accelerant. Through using tetrahydrothiophene as the hydrate accelerant which is insoluble in water and high in boiling point, the hydrate generating condition is greatly reduced, the hydrate forming temperature is increased, the generating temperature of a gas hydrate can be increased by 20 to 29 DEG C under the same pressure, the generation of the gas hydrate is greatly accelerated, the generation rate of the hydrate is 0.1 to 0.5 mol.min .m , and tetrahydrothiophene used as the hydrate accelerant can be recycled.
