Journal ArticleDOI
Elevated serum levels of C-reactive protein are associated with more severe psychopathology in a subgroup of patients with schizophrenia
Xiaoduo Fan,Cynthia A. Pristach,Cynthia A. Pristach,Emily Y. Liu,Emily Y. Liu,Oliver Freudenreich,David C. Henderson,Donald C. Goff +7 more
TL;DR: An inflammatory process, as reflected by elevated serum levels of CRP, might be associated with more severe psychopathology in a subgroup of patients with schizophrenia.
Journal ArticleDOI
Schizophrenia and the gut-brain axis.
TL;DR: Antimicrobials and probiotics have therapeutic potential for reducing the metabolic dysfunction and immune dysregulation seen in patients with schizophrenia.
Journal ArticleDOI
Changes in metabolism and microbiota after 24-week risperidone treatment in drug naïve, normal weight patients with first episode schizophrenia.
Xiuxia Yuan,Peifen Zhang,Yaping Wang,Yafei Liu,Xue Li,Bachoo Upshant Kumar,Gangrui Hei,Luxian Lv,Xu-Feng Huang,Xiaoduo Fan,Xueqin Song +10 more
TL;DR: Drug naïve, first episode schizophrenia patients show abnormalities in microbiota composition after 24-week risperidone treatment, which is likely associated with antipsychotic medication induced metabolic changes.
Journal ArticleDOI
Activation of Th17 cells in drug naïve, first episode schizophrenia.
Minli Ding,Xueqin Song,Jingyuan Zhao,Jinsong Gao,Xue Li,Ge Yang,Xiujuan Wang,Amy Harrington,Xiaoduo Fan,Luxian Lv +9 more
TL;DR: Patients with normal weight, drug naïve, first episode schizophrenia present activation of Th17 cells, which might be associated with therapeutic response after risperidone treatment.
Journal ArticleDOI
Inflammation and schizophrenia.
TL;DR: Inflammation might be an important common pathophysiological process related to both schizophrenia psychopathology and metabolic disturbances seen in patients with schizophrenia, and future studies targeting proinflammatory cytokines and their molecular signaling pathways may lead to novel pharmacological intervention strategies treating both psychopathological and medical comorbidity in patientswith this devastating mental illness.
