Tumor necrosis factor alpha induces angiogenic factor up-regulation in malignant glioma cells: a role for RNA stabilization and HuR.
TL;DR: Findings indicate that TNF-alpha up-regulates angiogenic factor expression in MG cells and that RNA stabilization, via the AREs in the 3'-untranslated region, contributes to this up-regulation.
Journal ArticleDOI
The rna-binding protein hur promotes glioma growth and treatment resistance
Natalia Filippova,Xiuhua Yang,Yimin Wang,G. Yancey Gillespie,Cathy Langford,Peter H. King,Crystal G. Wheeler,L. Burt Nabors +7 more
TL;DR: Findings reveal a HuR-dependent mechanism for cancer cell survival and sensitivity to chemotherapeutic drugs suggesting that HuR should be considered as a new therapeutic target.
Journal ArticleDOI
Expression of PRMT5 correlates with malignant grade in gliomas and plays a pivotal role in tumor growth in vitro
Xiaosi Han,Xiaosi Han,Rong Li,Wenbin Zhang,Xiuhua Yang,Crystal G. Wheeler,Gregory K. Friedman,Paula Province,Qiang Ding,Zhiying You,Hassan M. Fathallah-Shaykh,G. Yancey Gillespie,Xinyang Zhao,Peter H. King,Peter H. King,L. Burt Nabors +15 more
TL;DR: Findings indicate that PRMT5 is a marker of malignant progression in glioma tumors and plays a pivotal role in tumor growth.
Journal ArticleDOI
The role of Src family kinases in growth and migration of glioma stem cells
Xiaosi Han,Wenbin Zhang,Xiuhua Yang,Crystal G. Wheeler,Catherine P. Langford,Lu Wu,Natalia Filippova,Gregory K. Friedman,Qiang Ding,Hassan M. Fathallah-Shaykh,G. Yancey Gillespie,L. Burt Nabors +11 more
TL;DR: Results suggest that SFKs represent an effective target for GSC migration but not for their growth, and Knockdown of c-Src, Yes or treatment with the SFK inhibitor dasatinib inhibited the migration of GSCs, but had no impact on their growth or self-renewal.
Journal ArticleDOI
Phosphoregulation of the RNA-binding Protein Hu Antigen R (HuR) by Cdk5 Affects Centrosome Function
TL;DR: It is proposed that HuR stores mRNA in the centrosome and thatHuR phosphorylation by Cdk5 controls de novo protein synthesis in near proximity to centrosomes and, thus, impactsCentrosome function.
