TL;DR: Interestingly, rates of impairment, treatment use and co-morbidity increased with the number of fear subtypes and often precedes the onset of other mental disorders, making it a possible early-life indicator of psychopathology vulnerability.
Journal ArticleDOI
The prevalence of family childhood adversities and their association with first onset of DSM-IV disorders in metropolitan China.
Sing Lee,W. J. Guo,Adley Tsang,Yanling He,Y. Huang,Ming-yuan Zhang,Zhaorui Liu,Yu-cun Shen,Ronald C. Kessler +8 more
TL;DR: Chinese children were exposed to a broad spectrum of inter-related FCAs, as found in Western countries, and FCAs related to family dysfunction were especially associated with subsequent mental disorders.
Journal ArticleDOI
Complementary and alternative medicine contacts by persons with mental disorders in 25 countries: results from the World Mental Health Surveys.

Journal ArticleDOI
The effects of co-morbidity in defining major depression subtypes associated with long-term course and severity
Klaas J. Wardenaar,H. M. van Loo,Tianxi Cai,Maurizio Fava,Michaela Gruber,Junlong Li,P. de Jonge,Andrew A. Nierenberg,M. Petukhova,Sherri Rose,Nancy A. Sampson,Robert A. Schoevers,Marsha A. Scott,Nezar Ismet Taib,Maria Carmen Viana,Miguel Xavier,Zahari Zarkov,Ronald C. Kessler +30 more
TL;DR: The results using the retrospective data reported here suggest that useful MDD subtyping distinctions can be made with machine learning and clustering across multiple indicators of illness persistence/severity, but replication with prospective data is needed to confirm this preliminary conclusion.
Journal ArticleDOI
Embarrassment When Illness Strikes A Close Relative: A World Mental Health Survey Consortium Multi-Site Study
Brian K. Ahmedani,Sheryl Pimlott Kubiak,Ronald C. Kessler,R. de Graaf,Jordi Alonso,Ronny Bruffaerts,Zahari Zarkov,Maria Carmen Viana,Y. Huang,Chiyi Hu,Jose Posada-Villa,J P Lépine,Matthias C. TL;DR: The pattern of evidence from this research is consistent with conceptual models for interventions that target individual- and family-level stigma-related feelings of embarrassment as possible obstacles to effective early intervention and treatment for an ADMC.
