Journal ArticleDOI
A compact linac for intensity modulated proton therapy based on a dielectric wall accelerator
George J Caporaso,Thomas R. Mackie,S.E. Sampayan,Y.-J. Chen,D. Blackfield,John R. Harris,S.A. Hawkins,C. Holmes,Scott D. Nelson,A.C. Paul,Brian R. Poole,M. Rhodes,D. Sanders,J. Sullivan,L. Wang,J. Watson,Paul J. Reckwerdt,R. Schmidt,D. W. Pearson,R. W. Flynn,Dennis L Matthews,James A. Purdy +21 more
TL;DR: A novel compact CT-guided intensity modulated proton radiotherapy (IMPT) system is described, being designed to deliver fast IMPT so that larger target volumes and motion management can be accomplished.
Journal ArticleDOI
Initial electron-beam results from the DARHT-II linear induction accelerator
Carl Ekdahl,E.O. Abeyta,H. Bender,W. Broste,C. Carlson,L. Caudill,K.C.D. Chan,Y.-J. Chen,D. Dalmas,G. Durtschi,S. Eversole,S. Eylon,W. Fawley,Daniel K. Frayer,R. Gallegos,J. Harrison,Enrique Henestroza,M. Holzscheiter,Timothy L. Houck,Thomas Patrick Hughes,S. Humphries,David W. Johnson,Jarrett L. Johnson,K. Jones,E. Jacquez,B.T. McCuistian,A. Meidinger,N. Montoya,C. TL;DR: The DARHT-II linear-induction accelerator has been successfully operated at 1.2-1.3 kA and 12.5-12.7 MeV to demonstrate the production and acceleration of an electron beam as mentioned in this paper.
Proceedings ArticleDOI
High gradient induction accelerator
George J Caporaso,S.E. Sampayan,Y.-J. Chen,D. Blackfield,John R. Harris,S.A. Hawkins,C. Holmes,M. Krogh,M. Krogh,Scott D. Nelson,W. Nunnally,W. Nunnally,A.C. Paul,Brian R. Poole,M. Rhodes,D. Sanders,K. Selenes,J. Sullivan,L. Wang,J. Watson +19 more
TL;DR: A new type of compact induction accelerator is under development at the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory that promises to increase the average accelerating gradient by at least an order of magnitude over that of existing induction machines as discussed by the authors.
Journal ArticleDOI
Displacement current and surface flashover
TL;DR: In this article, it was shown that when an insulator is subjected to a fast high-voltage pulse, the magnetic field due to displacement current through the insulator can provide this mechanism.
Proceedings ArticleDOI
High gradient insulator technology for the dielectric wall accelerator
S.E. Sampayan,George J Caporaso,B. Carder,Y.-J. Chen,C. Holmes,E.J. Lauer,D. Trimble,J. Elizondo,M. Krogh,B. Rosenblum,C. Eichenberger,J. Fockler +11 more
TL;DR: In this article, a long pulse (>1 /spl mu/s) high voltage testing of small hard seal samples was performed in the presence of a 1 kA electron beam and the results indicated that a 1.0 to 4.0 increase in the breakdown electric field stress is possible with this technology.
