Antiferromagnetic Weyl semimetals with spin chirality offer excellent platforms to address the Berry phase physics, which manifests prominently in several of their electro-optical and electro-magnetic responses including as a large anomalous Hall effect (AHE) and spin Hall conductivity. Here, we report measurements of magneto-transport in c-axis textured Mn3Sn thin films grown on the [111] plane of single crystal MgO. At room temperature, these films display a weak uncompensated magnetic moment of \approx 0.12 \micro_{B}/f.u. in the basal plane and a longitudinal resistivity (\rho_{xx}) close to \approx 3.8 \micro\Omega.m. A residual resistivity ration (\rho_{xx} (300 K)/\rho_{xx} (2 K)) of \approx 3.92 further indicates the high quality of the films. While at 300 K a weak AHE together with field-linear Hall resistivity (\rho_{xy}) is observed in magnetic fields (H) applied perpendicular to the Kagome planes, the temperature (T) dependence of \rho_{xy} shows prominent signatures of three magnetic phases in the temperature regime of 2 to 300 K. The \rho_{xy} also derives a non-trivial topological contribution (\r{ho}THE \approx 1n\Omega.m) in the spin glass phase which appears at T \geq 100 K. Our measurements of anisotropic magnetoresistance (AMR) and planar Hall effect (PHE) over a wide H-T phase space reveal the hitherto unseen effects in the three magnetic phases of Mn3Sn. While the AMR and PHE are negative in the inverse triangular spin phase (250 K \geq T \geq TN), the helical phase (100 \geq T \geq 250 K) is devoid of anisotropic in-plane resistivity, and the spin glass phase shows a sign reversal of AMR with the increasing magnetic field. The origin of this sign change in AMR/PHE is attributed to the emergence of topologically protected spin textures like skyrmions where the fictitious effective magnetic field is estimated to be \approx 4.4 tesla.

Planar Hall effect and Anisotropic Magnetoresistance in Thin Films of Chiral Antiferromagnet Mn3Sn

This paper considers a model-free control approach to Euler-Lagrange equations and proposes a new quantitative performance measure with its Lyapunov-based computation method. More precisely, this paper aims to solve a trajectory tracking problem for uncertain Euler-Lagrange equations by using a model-free controller with a proportional-integral-derivative (PID) control form. The $ L_\infty $-gain is evaluated for the closed-loop systems obtained through the feedback connection between the Euler-Lagrange equation and the model-free controller. To this end, the input-to-state stability (ISS) for the closed-loop systems is first established by deriving an appropriate Lyapunov function. The study further extends these arguments to develop a computational approach to determine the $ L_\infty $-gain. Finally, the theoretical validity and effectiveness of the proposed quantitative performance measure are demonstrated through a simulation of a $ 2 $-degree-of-freedom ($ 2 $-DOF) robot manipulator, which is one of the most representative examples of Euler-Lagrange equations.

Model-free control approach to uncertain Euler-Lagrange equations with a Lyapunov-based $ L_\infty $-gain analysis

The 5d pyrochlore iridate family (R2Ir2O7, where R is a rare earth ion) has garnered significant attention due to its topological properties, such as Weyl semimetallic phases and axion insulator. However, the investigation of these properties has been impeded by severe iridium loss during growth, which results in the formation of defects and impurities. Herein, we demonstrate a method for controlling impurities and defects in strained Nd2Ir2O7 (NIO-227) films by compensating for iridium loss during growth. By increasing the amount of IrO2 target ablated, we enhance the morphological quality and electrical transport properties of the fabricated films. Furthermore, our results show that the anomalous Hall effects of the films have a strong dependency on the amount of IrO2 target ablated, which is attributed to the structural inhomogeneity in the NIO-227 films. Our work provides a way to control defects and impurities and would promote the investigation of topological phases in the family R2Ir2O7.

Engineering structural homogeneity and magnetotransport in strained Nd2Ir2O7 films

Abstract Antiferromagnetic (AFM) materials are attracting tremendous attention due to their spintronic applications and associated novel topological phenomena. However, detecting and identifying the spin configurations in AFM materials are quite challenging due to the absence of net magnetization. Herein, we report the practicality of utilizing the planar Hall effect (PHE) to detect and distinguish “cluster magnetic multipoles” in AFM Nd 2 Ir 2 O 7 (NIO-227) fully strained films. By imposing compressive strain on the spin structure of NIO-227, we artificially induced cluster magnetic multipoles, namely dipoles and A 2 - and T 1 -octupoles. Importantly, under magnetic field rotation, each magnetic multipole exhibits distinctive harmonics of the PHE oscillation. Moreover, the planar Hall conductivity has a nonlinear magnetic field dependence, which can be attributed to the magnetic response of the cluster magnetic octupoles. Our work provides a strategy for identifying cluster magnetic multipoles in AFM systems and would promote octupole-based AFM spintronics.

Higher harmonics in planar Hall effect induced by cluster magnetic multipoles

This paper studies a two-layer control strategy for optimal operational control which is prevalent in industrial production. The upper layer determines and adjusts the target set values, while the lower layer makes the loop output track the target value. In the two-layer structure optimal setting control system, the widely used PID controller is used in the bottom layer. Firstly, the parameters of the PID controller are obtained by solving linear matrix inequalities (LMI). Secondly, for industrial processes with nonlinear harmonic disturbances, a disturbance observer is designed to estimate these disturbances. Thirdly, the effects of disturbances or noises are minimized by dynamically adjusting the setting points. This method does not change the structure or parameters of the bottom controller, and thus meets the actual industrial requirements to a certain extent. Finally, in the numerical simulation section, the value of the performance index before set-points adjustment is compared with that after set-points adjustment.
