A compact dual band-notched ultra-wideband (UWB) multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) antenna with high isolation is designed on a FR4 substrate (27 × 30 × 0.8 mm3). To improve the input impedance matching and increase the isolation for the frequencies ≥ 4.0 GHz, the two antenna elements with compact size of 5.5 × 11 mm2 are connected to the two protruded ground parts, respectively. A 1/3 λ rectangular metal strip producing a 1.0 λ loop path with the corresponding antenna element is used to obtain the notched frequency from 5.15 to 5.85 GHz. For the rejected band of 3.30-3.70 GHz, a 1/4 λ open slot is etched into the radiator. Moreover, the two protruded ground parts are connected by a compact metal strip to reduce the mutual coupling for the band of 3.0-4.0 GHz. The simulated and measured results show a bandwidth with |S11| ≤ -10 dB, |S21| ≤ -20 dB and frequency ranged from 3.0 to 11.0 GHz excluding the two rejected bands, is achieved, and all the measured and calculated results show the proposed UWB MIMO antenna is a good candidate for UWB MIMO systems.

Compact Dual Band-Notched UWB MIMO Antenna With High Isolation

In this letter, a novel low-profile microstrip-fed compact triple band-notched ultrawideband (UWB) antenna is proposed. Notch bands around the 3.3-3.8-GHz WiMAX and 5.15-5.85-GHz WLAN frequencies are obtained by etching out two elliptic single complementary split-ring resonators (ESCSRRs) of different dimensions from the radiating patch of the antenna. Furthermore, by placing two rectangular split-ring resonators near the feedline-patch junction of the antenna, rejection for the 7.9-8.4-GHz X-band frequencies is achieved. Design guidelines for implementing the notch-bands at the desired frequency regions are provided. The match between the simulated and experimental results suggests that the proposed antenna can be a good candidate for application in UWB communication systems.

A Compact Microstrip-Fed Triple Band-Notched UWB Monopole Antenna

Two compact, printed, ultrawideband (UWB) monopole antennas with tri-band notched characteristics are reported. The notched filters are achieved by introducing printed, electrically small, capacitively-loaded loop (CLL) resonators. The directly driven elements consist of printed top-loaded CLL-based monopoles and 50 Ω microstrip feed lines. By adding three CLL elements close to the feed line, band-notch properties in the WiMAX (3.3-3.6GHz), lower WLAN (5.15-5.35GHz) and higher WLAN (5.725-5.825GHz) bands are achieved. Each antenna system is contained on a 27×34mm2 sheet of Rogers Duroid 5880 substrate. One is designed with three additional CLL elements; the other is achieved with only two. Comparisons between the simulation and measurement results show that these UWB antennas have broadband matched impedance values and stable radiation patterns for all radiating frequencies.

Single, Dual and Tri-Band-Notched Ultrawideband (UWB) Antennas Using Capacitively Loaded Loop (CLL) Resonators

This paper presents the design of a compact split ring resonator (SRR) loaded coplanar waveguide (CPW) fed ultrawideband circular monopole antenna having frequency notch characteristics. The electromagnetic coupling of the SRR with the CPW yields the frequency notch. Fabricated prototypes were measured and compared with simulations and good agreement was obtained. The impedance and radiation plots confirm the suppression of the desired notch frequency. A theoretical formulation to calculate the notch frequency is also proposed and validated.

Compact SRR loaded UWB circular monopole antenna with frequency notch characteristics

A new approach is proposed to reject certain bands within the passband of an ultra-wideband planar monopole antenna. The proposed approach that utilizes a mushroom-type electromagnetic-bandgap (EBG) structure is proven to be an effective way for band-notched designs. The approach has many advantages, such as notch-frequency tunability, notch-band width controllable capacity, efficient dual-notch design, and stable radiation patterns. Several design examples using conventional mushroom-type EBG and edge-located vias mushroom-type EBG are presented. The examples exhibit good bandstop characteristics to reject the wireless local-area network interference bands (5.2- and 5.8-GHz bands). Besides, the causes that lead to the discrepancies between the simulations and measurements are discussed.

UWB Band-Notched Monopole Antenna Design Using Electromagnetic-Bandgap Structures

We propose a compact planar ultrawideband (UWB) antenna with 3.4/5.5 GHz dual band-notched characteristics. The antenna consists of a beveled rectangular metal patch and a 50 Omega coplanar waveguide (CPW) transmission line. By etching two nested C-shaped slots in the patch, band-rejected filtering properties in the WiMAX/WLAN bands are achieved. The proposed antenna is successfully simulated, designed, and measured showing broadband matched impedance, stable radiation patterns and constant gain. An equivalent circuit model of the proposed antenna is presented to discuss the mechanism of the dual band-notched UWB antenna. A UWB antenna and a single band-notched one are also provided for references.

A Compact Ultrawideband Antenna With 3.4/5.5 GHz Dual Band-Notched Characteristics

A study of time domain characteristics of band-notched ultrawideband (UWB) antennas is presented. Two parameters - the correlation factor and the pulse width stretch ratio (SR) are resorted to estimate the time domain characteristics. The high correlation and the values of SR show that the previously proposed antennas are suitable for short-range UWB impulse radio. Ringing distortion of receiving antenna signals caused by the band-notched characteristics is discussed. Measured magnitudes of transfer function and group delay are exhibited. The primary study in this communication is to demonstrate the good performances of the previously proposed band-notched UWB antennas in short-range UWB signal transmission, propagation and reception in time domain.
