Journal ArticleDOI
Molecular Cloning of a New Aquaporin from Rat Pancreas and Liver
Yu Koyama,Tadashi Yamamoto,D. Kondo,Haruko Funaki,Eishin Yaoita,Katsutoshi Kawasaki,Nobuaki Sato,Katsuyoshi Hatakeyama,Itaru Kihara +8 more
TL;DR: A new water channel (aquaporin-8, gene symbol AQP8) was isolated from rat pancreas and liver by homology cloning and ribonuclease protection assay showed intense expression of the gene in pancrea and liver, less intense in colon and salivary gland, and negligible in other organs.
Journal ArticleDOI
Expression and localization of aquaporins in rat gastrointestinal tract
Yu Koyama,Tadashi Yamamoto,Tatsuo Tani,Kouei Nihei,Daisuke Kondo,Haruko Funaki,Eishin Yaoita,Katsutoshi Kawasaki,Nobuaki Sato,Katsuyoshi Hatakeyama,Itaru Kihara +10 more
TL;DR: Findings may indicate that water crosses the epithelial layer through these water channels, suggesting a possible role of the transcellular route for water intake or outlet in the gastrointestinal tract.
Journal ArticleDOI
Cloning of a New Aquaporin (AQP10) Abundantly Expressed in Duodenum and Jejunum
Satoru Hatakeyama,Yutaka Yoshida,Tatsuo Tani,Yu Koyama,Kouei Nihei,Kazufumi Ohshiro,Junichi Kamiie,Eishin Yaoita,Takeyasu Suda,Katsuyoshi Hatakeyama,Tadashi Yamamoto +10 more
TL;DR: Although AQP10 belongs to the AQP subfamily, which has been characterized by permeability to water and neutral solutes such as urea and Glycerol, it was not permeable to urea nor glycerol.
Journal ArticleDOI
Localization and expression of AQP5 in cornea, serous salivary glands, and pulmonary epithelial cells
Haruko Funaki,Tadashi Yamamoto,Yu Koyama,Daisuke Kondo,Eishin Yaoita,Katsutoshi Kawasaki,Hideyuki Kobayashi,Shoichi Sawaguchi,Haruki Abe,Itaru Kihara +9 more
TL;DR: Aquaporin (AQP) 5 gene was recently isolated from salivary gland and identified as a member of the AQP family and a role of AQP5 in water transport to prevent dehydration or to secrete watery products in these tissues is suggested.
Journal ArticleDOI
Immunolocalization of aquaporin-8 in rat digestive organs and testis.
Tatsuo Tani,Yu Koyama,Kouei Nihei,Satoru Hatakeyama,Kazufumi Ohshiro,Yutaka Yoshida,Eishin Yaoita,Yasuo Sakai,Katsuyoshi Hatakeyama,Tadashi Yamamoto +9 more
TL;DR: The localization of immunoreactive aquaporin-8 and expression of the mRNA indicated functions for this water channel in the secretion of bile and pancreatic juice, the secretion or absorption of water in the colon and jejunum, and the maturation or liberation of spermatogenic cells in the testis.
