This book by a teacher of statistics (as well as a consultant for \"experimenters\") is a comprehensive study of the philosophical background for the statistical design of experiment. It is necessary to have some facility with algebraic notation and manipulation to be able to use the volume intelligently. The problems are presented from the theoretical point of view, without such practical examples as would be helpful for those not acquainted with mathematics. The mathematical justification for the techniques is given. As a somewhat advanced treatment of the design and analysis of experiments, this volume will be interesting and helpful for many who approach statistics theoretically as well as practically. With emphasis on the \"why,\" and with description given broadly, the author relates the subject matter to the general theory of statistics and to the general problem of experimental inference. The Design and Analysis of Experiments

Multiple criteria decision-making (MCDM) is considered as a complex decision-making (DM) tool involving both quantitative and qualitative factors. In recent years, several MCDM techniques and approaches have been suggested to choosing the optimal probable options. The purpose of this article is to systematically review the applications and methodologies of the MCDM techniques and approaches. This study reviewed a total of 393 articles published from 2000 to 2014 in more than 120 peer reviewed journals (extracted from Web of Science). According to experts’ opinion, these articles were grouped into 15 fields. Furthermore, these articles were categorised based on authors, publication date, name of journals, methods, tools, and type of research (MCDM utilising research, MCDM developing research, and MCDM proposing research). The hesitant fuzzy linguistic term set (HFLTS) has turned out to be a powerful and flexible technique in representing decision makers’ qualitative assessments in the processes of decision making. The aim of this paper is to develop a method to solve the multicriteria decision making (MCDM) problem within the context of HFLTS in which the criteria conflict with each other. To do so, the concepts of ideal solutions for a HFL-MCDM problem have been introduced. In addition, in order to represent the closeness of one solution to the ideal one, we propose a sort of hesitant fuzzy linguistic measures, such as the hesitant fuzzy linguistic group utility measure, the hesitant fuzzy linguistic individual regret measure, and the hesitant fuzzy linguistic compromise measure. Based on these measures, we develop a hesitant fuzzy linguistic VIKOR (HFL-VIKOR) method, which is motivated by the traditional VIKOR method. The general procedures for the HFL-VIKOR method are given. Some numerical examples are provided to demonstrate the advantages and practicality of our method. Finally, we make some discussions on the advantages of the HFL-VIKOR method, as well as future work.

Hesitant Fuzzy Linguistic VIKOR Method and Its Application in Qualitative Multiple Criteria Decision Making

Materials selection using complex proportional assessment and evaluation of mixed data methods

Lean Manufacturing (LM) is a thought developed in Toyota, thus, there is lack of studies investigated whether the
implementation of LM is appropriate for different enterprises’ or not because of different organizational and social culture of
enterprises and labor. This paper critically analyzes eleven prevailing models for LM in an attempt to find a unified model
that can be applied inside enterprises. In the literature several models have a tendency to focus only on a few single
components. However, different enterprises use diverse dimensions and models for measuring LM. It aims to review the
various LM models prevailing in the contemporary research papers along with presentation of an in-depth analysis exploring
the similar and dissimilar aspects. The dimensions of the LM models adopted by different enterprises are quite diverse as
revealed through this investigation. The contribution of this review is twofold: various models for LM are critically analyzed
followed by a comparative evaluation with a vision to propose a potential model for LM that is applicable for manufacturing
enterprises. Results show that the unified model comprises of 11 components for LM initiated from the principles of Toyota
Production System (TPS).

A Critical Assessment of Prevailing Models for Measuring Lean Manufacturing

Background: quality awards are known as one of the research interests in quality management sector. Objective: This study tries to compare quality awards. Results: In the first part we focused on Malaysian quality award, aim to introduce it as one of the successful quality awards systems. Then in the next phase of the paper we try to review the joint points and differences of the quality awards. This paper focuses on energy consumption in a pharmaceutical industry. The efficient energy consumption
depends on energy layout planning. Materials handling consideration may save the energy. The wastage of energy
resources leads to wastage of money. The proposed new layout has been designed for the company X for energy efficiency. The energy efficiency calculation is based on total weekly energy usage in the company X. After the research, the work flow analysis can be planned for ease material handling. The saving of the energy consumption leads in saving 20% of electricity bills. In the other way, it save money and environment friendly because energy consumption used is less.

In the twenty first century the term ‘sustainability’ is recognized unanimously as an inherent and important strategy for an organization to operate and achieve long-term competitive edge. Accordingly sustainable key performance indicators (KPI) are identified by manufacturers and introduced for adoption and application in different operational activities. However, the dimensions of the sustainability models adopted by different enterprises are quite diverse as revealed through this investigation. The organizations are found to focus on varieties of strategic aspects rather than adopting identical or uniform strategies when dealing with sustainability issues. This paper aims at reviewing the various models prevailing in the contemporary research papers along with presentation of an in-depth analysis exposing the similar and dissimilar aspects. The contribution of this review is twofold: various models for sustainable performance (SP) are critically analyzed followed by a comparative evaluation with a view to proposing a general model suitable for adoption by manufacturing enterprises. The unified model as proposed in this paper comprises of three major components related to the social, financial and environmental domains.
