Long-term treatment with Hachimi-jio-gan attenuates kidney damage in spontaneously diabetic WBN/Kob rats.
Takako Nakagawa,Takako Yokozawa,Noriko Yamabe,Hirozo Goto,Naotoshi Shibahara,Dong Young Rhyn,Yutaka Shimada +6 more
TL;DR: It is suggested that Hachimi‐jio‐gan could prevent diabetic kidney damage by reducing renal oxidative injury and expression of fibronectin and TGF‐β1 proteins, which are all involved in the pathophysiology of diabetic nephropathy.
Journal ArticleDOI
Inhibitory effects of Choto-san (Diao-teng-san), and hooks and stems of Uncaria sinensis on free radical-induced lysis of rat red blood cells.
Nobuyasu Sekiya,Yutaka Shimada,Naotoshi Shibahara,S. Takagi,Koichi Yokoyama,Yuji Kasahara,Iwao Sakakibara,Katsutoshi Terasawa +7 more
TL;DR: When incubated with RBC suspension, Choto-san extract (CSE) and Uncaria sinensis extract (USE) exhibited strong protection for RBC membrane against hemolysis induced by 2,2-azo-bis (2-amidinopropane) dihydrochloride (AAPH), an azo free-radical initiator.
Journal ArticleDOI
STAT1 activation-induced apoptosis of esophageal squamous cell carcinoma cells in vivo
Junichi Kaganoi,Go Watanabe,Michio Okabe,Shiro Nagatani,Atsushi Kawabe,Yutaka Shimada,Masayuki Imamura,Yoshiharu Sakai +7 more
TL;DR: The results suggest that IFN-γ is one candidate for cytokine-based therapy of cancer and that STAT1 activation might be involved in the apoptosis of esophageal SCC cells and in the terminal differentiation of normal squamous cells.
Journal ArticleDOI
Yokukansan Improves Mechanical Allodynia through the Regulation of Interleukin-6 Expression in the Spinal Cord in Mice with Neuropathic Pain.
TL;DR: Yokukansan relieves mechanical allodynia in PSL mice by regulating the expression of IL-6 in astrocytes and/or microglia in the spinal cord, and the components of Atractylodis Lanceae Rhizoma, one of the constituent herbal medicines in yokukan, may play an important role in the regulation ofIL-6 expression and neuropathic pain control.
Journal ArticleDOI
Measurement of plasma procyanidin B-2 and procyanidin B-3 levels after oral administration in rat.
N. Tanaka,Nobuyasu Sekiya,Masao Hattori,Hirozo Goto,Naotoshi Shibahara,Yutaka Shimada,Katsutoshi Terasawa +6 more
TL;DR: Using a high-performance liquid chromatographic method and mass spectrometry analysis, the absorption of orally administered procyanidin B-2 and procyanthine B-3 isolated from Cinnamonomi cortex is measured in rat plasma.
