According to the traffic problems such as traffic congestion and buses moving slowly, the paper based on the idea of bus priority to introduced the per capita minimum delay of signal control method. In this paper, the intersection of Huaguang Road and Liuquan Road in Zibo Zhangdian was used as an example to propose a bus signal timing plan. By considering the impact of traffic delays and designing the phase of the intersection. It can reduce the per capita delay and improve service levels. Using Trans Modeler to simulate the timing scheme, the results showed that the optimized scheme can effectively reduce the per capita delay and ensure priority access for buses.

Optimal Signal Timing Method of Intersections Based on Bus Priority

TSP (transit signal priority) is an effective strategy to improve the transit performance at signalized intersection However, TSP may have negative effect on vehicles in the non-priority direction This paper proposed a rule-based signal control method: grant an optimal green compensation time to the non-priority direction which can reduce the vehicle delay in non-priority direction while make sure the vehicle delay in priority direction is limited in an acceptable level This paper use LOS (level of service) as judging criteria to determine the compensation threshold and total compensation time In addition, this paper introduced an installment compensation strategy, which can avoid the negative affect when compensation time is too long Finally, the case study shows the optimized signal timing compensation plan will reduce 246% vehicle delay in non-priority direction and 298% in the entire intersection, the LOS of the intersection increase from E to D

A LOS-based signal compensation method for non-bus priority approach

In order to balance the traffic efficiency of non-priority phase, to enhance the overall level of service (LOS) of the intersection, this paper puts forward a bus priority strategy considering the non-priority signal phase compensation. Firstly, based on the LOS constraint, a bus priority strategy with no signal compensation for non-bus priority and a bus priority strategy with signal compensation are established. Then, a one-time compensation strategy and staged compensation strategy are proposed for the bus priority strategy with signal compensation.

Bus Priority Strategy Considering Signal Compensation for Non-bus Priority Phase

Bus bunching is a severe problem that affects the service levels of public transport systems. Most of the previous studies in the field of Bus Signal Priority (BSP) and Transit Signal Priority (TSP) focus on reducing a bus delay at signalised intersections and ignore the importance of balancing the bus headways. However, since general BSP methods allocate uneven priorities for individual buses, the headways of bus sequences are prioritised or delayed randomly, increasing the likelihood of bus bunching. To address this problem and to improve the reliability of bus services, we propose an online optimisation model to determine the signal duration and splits for each traffic intersection and each signal cycle for bus priority. The proposed model is able to induce the signal timing back to a baseline when the BSP request frequency is low. Using the proposed model, a statistically significant reduction of 10.0% was achieved for bus headway deviation and 6.4% for passenger waiting times. The simulation-based evaluation results also indicate that the proposed model does not affect the efficiency of bus services and other vehicles significantly.

An Online Optimal Bus Signal Priority Strategy to Equalise Headway in Real-Time

Bus signal priority at signalized intersections is an efficient and feasible approach to reduce bus delays.Through the simulation analysis,it is found that the average passenger delay is relevant with the bus arrival rate and the priority time.In order to reduce the average passenger delay,the signal-planning is improved and the simulation results demonstrate that improved signal-planning method can reduce average passenger delay significantly.

Delay Analysis and Signal Control Amelioration of Intersection Using Bus Priority Signal-planning Strategy

Bus signal priority at signalized intersections has demonstrated as an efficient and realizable approach to reduce bus delays. However the impact on passenger delays still needs to be analyzed after bus signal priority. This paper proposes a passenger delays reduction model by using the delay triangle. Taking a two-phase signalized intersection for example, it is found that the passenger delays reduction is relevant to the bus arrival rate and the time of green extension or red truncation. In order to minimize passenger delays, dynamic priority strategy is put forward which determines the time of green extension or red truncation according to the bus arrival rate. The simulation results present that passenger delays can be reduced by using dynamic priority strategy significantly compared with the original priority strategy.
