TL;DR: Noise-induced temporary hearing loss was studied in humans with either blue or brown iris colour and the mean TTS showed a significant difference with the brown-eyed subjects developing least TTS, and the blue- eyed subjects most TTS.
Abstract: In order to investigate the function of the inner ear melanin, noise-induced temporary hearing loss (temporary threshold shift, TTS) was studied in humans with either blue or brown iris colour. Sixty-eight normally hearing teenage boys participated in this study. Hearing thresholds before and after exposure were established with a computerized sweep frequency audiometer in the frequency range 0.8-8 kHz. The noise exposure consisted of a 1/3 octave band-filtered noise with centre frequency 2 kHz at 105 dB SPL for 10 min. The mean TTS in the frequency range 2-8 kHz showed a significant difference with the brown-eyed subjects developing least TTS, and the blue-eyed subjects most TTS.

TL;DR: In this paper, a carbon black process control system measures input variables such as feedstock flow rate, feedstock quality, air flow rate and air humidity, air temperature, fuel flow rate at spaced intervals while the carbon black reactor is operating.
Abstract: A carbon black process control system measures input variables such as feedstock flow rate, feedstock quality, air flow rate, air humidity, air temperature, fuel flow rate, fuel quality, and/or potassium additive solution flow rate at spaced intervals while the carbon black reactor is operating Then, at spaced intervals in time one or more output variables of the carbon black, such as iodine number and/or DBP, are predicted in accordance with a prediction algorithm based on the values of the measured input variables Then, at spaced intervals in time the predicted values of the output variables, such as iodine number and/or DBP, are averaged Based on the average values of the predicted output variables, one or more input variables are then adjusted to achieve goal values of the predicted output variables, and thus obtain carbon black of substantially consistent quality The predicted output variables are also laboratory measured from samples of the carbon black produced at spaced intervals in time while the carbon black reactor is operating Then, based on both the predicted values and measured values of the output variables, the prediction algorithm is adjusted to improve the accuracy of the prediction of the output variables, and thus produce carbon black of substantially consistent quality

TL;DR: In this article, the vibration and isolation damping handle grips and handle cover covers are fabricated in such a way that the vibration damping elastomer (101) is nearest the vibration generating handle (100).
Abstract: The present invention pertains to vibration and isolation damping handle grips and handle grip covers. The vibration damping handle grip includes a vibration damping elastomer (101) and a webbed, tack-free elastomer-coated tubular shaped material (102). The tack-free elastomer-coated tubular shaped material (102) or grip cover includes a tubular fabric which is knitted, braided or woven coated with a synthetic or natural elastomer. The vibration damping handle grip is fabricated in such a manner that the vibration damping elastomer (101) is nearest the vibration generating handle (100). The webbed, tack-free elastomer-coated tubular shaped material (102) is adapted to conform to the vibration damping elastomer (101) covered handle (100) shape. The improved handle grip provides a comfortable, substantially slip free hand gripping surface with improved vibration damping and vibration isolating properties.

TL;DR: In this article, the authors proposed a method for stamped leadframe segments, where a minimum lead spacing for any segment is determined by the stamping operation and the effective lead spacing of the leadframe is therefore less than that for any of the segments and is less than 0254mm in some portion of the interdigitated region.
Abstract: A leadframe for accomplishing electrical connection to an electronic device is formed of two or more layers, each having a set of leads extending therefrom The segments are assembled one above the other so that the leads of one set are interdigitated with the leads of the other set along the length of the leads The effective lead spacing of the leadframe is therefore less than that for any of the segments and is less than 0254mm in some portion of the interdigitated region The approach is particularly useful for stamped leadframe segments, because a minimum lead spacing for any segment is determined by the stamping operation

Abstract: An improved process and device for removing free halogen from residual gasses containing up to 15 % by volume oxygen. Gaseous hydrocarbons and hydrogen are uniformly dispersed in the residual gasses either simultaneously or sequentially and preferentially reacted with the free halogen present before a competing reaction with oxygen can occur. The dispersion device includes an outer housing member, a centrally disposed second member which transports the residual gas from the burner through the cooling zone, and means for transporting gaseous hydrocarbons and hydrogen from the housing member to the second member for rapid and uniform dispersion in the residual gas stream.
