Abstract: A technique has been developed that adapts the Fast Fourier Transform algorithm for implementation on computers having relatively long multiplication times. The technique is particularly well suited to real-time processing on a small data acquisition computer such as the IBM System/7. Four basic ideas are utilized to improve the performance of the original Cooley-Tukey algorithm on such a machine: 1) The real-valued nature of the input data is exploited. 2) The number of multiplications that must be carried out is minimized at the expense of additions. 3) The calculations are performed in a carefully ordered sequence. 4) Special multiplication algorithms are used. This technique has reduced by more than an order of magnitude the time required to carry out 1024-point transformations on a small computer. A program is developed for calculating these transforms in real time on an IBM System/7 computer. With this program, a maximum sampling rate in excess of 10 kHz is obtained.

TL;DR: In this paper, a system for measuring atmospheric temperature, humidity, and wind speed continuously and simultaneously at more than one level between 50 and 600 m above the ocean or land surface is described.
Abstract: A system is described for measuring atmospheric temperature, humidity, and wind speed continuously and simultaneously at more than one level between 50 and 600 m above the ocean or land surface. The design of the system is presented. This consists of a modulator-transmitter unit which is suspended from a tether line supported by a balloon and controlled by a winch. Data are transmitted by radio link to a receiver-demodulator and recorder at the surface. Results are given which show that the system is capable of acquiring simultaneous time series of meteorological variables at two levels. This presents a viable, though not complete, method for acquiring time series data in a region of the atmosphere previously poorly sampled. The data presented suggest that turbulent mixing in this layer is governed by moist plumes on a scale of 100 m or more. Spectra of humidity are in good agreement with the Kolmogoroff minus-five-thirds law in the inertial subrange between 0.1 and 0.5 Hz. These spectra seem consistent with previous findings and support the suggested scale and role of the moist plumes in the turbulent transfer processes in the subcloud layer.

TL;DR: The game is a contest in which subjects attempt with as few moves as possible to light five lights on a panel before them as discussed by the authors, and each subject is instructed to attempt to turn on one light, going from Light 1 to Light 5, each time the game light on their panel is illuminated.
Abstract: The game is a contest in which subjects attempt with as few moves as possible to light five lights on a panel before them. Three panels are used in the experiment-one panel for each subject and a control panel for the experimenter. Each of the five lights on a subject's panel can be turned on or off, individually, by a switch located beneath each of them. The subjects are instructed to attempt to turn on one light, going from Light 1 to Light 5, each time the "game light" on their panel is illuminated. The game light is operated by the experimenters. Each subject is told

Abstract: The purpose of this study is to develop usable indices for a select group of alliances and regional systems operating in the early 1960s.1 Those following the literature on alliances, regional systems, and the process of integration know that it is a sizable array. Considerable space, in some journals, such as International Organization, is devoted to reporting the most recent structural or functional innovations in various organizations such as OAS. To be aware, then, of all the facts concerning contemporary alliances and regional systems is a challenging enterprise. In addition, several journals, including the one mentioned above, carry basically historical pieces which may develop a variety of

TL;DR: In this article, a mathematical model for the bias-ply pneumatic tire is presented based on the linear-membrane theory of thin shells of revolution, which exhibits greater generality in development and flexibility in use than previous models.
Abstract: A mathematical model for the bias-ply pneumatic tire is presented. Based on the linear-membrane theory of thin shells of revolution, the present model exhibits greater generality in development and flexibility in use than previous models. As presented here, the model has the capability of defining meridian profiles as a function of geometric and cord-load parameters designated at any point on the tire carcass. The result is a model capable of effecting parametric studies for the effects of tire design and construction constraints on carcass shape and cord load.
