TL;DR: This article presented a conceptualization and a 2-year program of autonomy-supportive I-Thou dialogue among teachers and students that is based on self-determination theory and Buber's philosophy.
Abstract: We present a conceptualization and a 2 year program of autonomy-supportive I–Thou dialogue among teachers and students that is based on self-determination theory (Deci and Ryan in Psychol Inq 11(4):227–268, 2000) and Buber’s (1960) philosophy. The program was applied in 18 seventh grade classes (420 students). Findings showed: (a) increases in positive emotions and in perceptions of teachers as conducting more dialogue on the relevance of studies to students’ lives, and (b) decreases in negative emotions and in classroom violence. The findings highlight the importance of autonomy-supportive I–Thou dialogue and suggest that such dialogue might help adolescents to experience studying and school as more pleasant and secure.

TL;DR: In this article, the authors examined the relationship between ethnic identity (Israeli and Ethiopian) and parental support with suicidal ideation and alcohol use and found significant correlations between both Israeli and Ethiopian identities and suicidal ideations and alcohol consumption.
Abstract: Recent figures point to alarming rates of suicidal tendencies and risk behaviors among Ethiopian adolescents (first and second generation) in Israel. Two hundred adolescents aged 15–18 years from the Ethiopian community in Israel completed questionnaires examining the degree to which they felt a sense of (positive) Israeli and Ethiopian identity and parental support as well as suicidal ideation, drinking behavior, and depression. Results showed significant correlations between both Israeli and Ethiopian identities and suicidal ideation and alcohol use and a significant relationship between suicidal ideation and parental support. Regression analysis highlighted the pivotal role of a strong and positive heritage (Ethiopian) identity in lower levels of suicidal ideation and alcohol use. Results suggest the import...

TL;DR: The Thomas B. Fordham Foundation published a manifesto entitled The Teachers We Need and How to Get More of them as discussed by the authors, which is the same approach that almost every successful modern enterprise has adopted to boost performance and productivity.
Abstract: In 1999, The Thomas B. Fordham Foundation publishes a manifesto entitled The Teachers We Need and How to Get More of Them. America is beginning to adopt a powerful, commonsensical strategy for school reform. It is the same approach that almost every successful modern enterprise has adopted to boost performance and productivity: set high standards for results to be achieved, identify clear indicators to measure progress towards those results, and be flexible and pluralistic about the means for reaching those results.
