TL;DR: In this paper, the authors considered a class of uncertain large-scale systems in which interconnections between subsystems as well as uncertainties in each subsystem are described by integral quadratic constraints.
Abstract: This paper is concerned with a problem of stabilization and robust control design for interconnected uncertain systems. The new class of uncertain large-scale systems is considered in which interconnections between subsystems as well as uncertainties in each subsystem are described by integral quadratic constraints. The problem is to design a set of local (decentralized) controllers which stabilize the overall system and guarantee robust disturbance attenuation in the presence of the uncertainty in interconnections between subsystems as well as in each subsystem. The paper presents necessary and sufficient conditions for the existence of such a controller. The proposed design is based on recent absolute stabilization and minimax optimal control results and employs solutions of a set of game-type Riccati algebraic equations arising in H/sub /spl infin// control.

TL;DR: In this paper, the cross-effect of heat and mass transfer of capillary porous media was analyzed using a convective drying mathematical model under the first unsteady boundary condition.
Abstract: This paper mainly focuses on cross-effect of heat and mass transfer of capillary porous media which A.B.Luikov set up on irreversible thermodynamics principle. On the basis of perfecting the equations of heat and mass transfer, the heat and mass transfer parameters are determined during drying processes, and thermal gradient coefficient δ and moisture gradient coefficient ξ are obtained which show the cross-effect of heat and mass transfer. Thus the fundamentals are provided for quantitative analysis of cross-effect of heat and mass transfer. The convective drying mathematical model under the first unsteady boundary condition is therefore proposed. By the application of Henry transform, the theoretical solution of unsteady drying process is given and its validity is verified

TL;DR: The results confirm the expected conservatism of the microbiological structural indicators and the possibility of using the dehydrogenase activity as a reliable biological indicator for assessment and management of the nitrogen removal processes.
Abstract: The nitrification denirtification wastewater treatment processes have been studied in laboratory conditions, using a system of two completely mixed reactors and a secondary clarifier. Wastewater and activated sludge were taken from the Sofia Wastewater Treatment Plant (Sofia WWTP). Four steady states, differing in sludge age were investigated. For each steady state microbiological and biochemical analyses were carried out. The aim of the study was to establish the reliable bioindicators for assessment and management of the nitrogen removal processes. The amount of the more important physiological groups of microorganisms varies insignificantly in the four steady states, whereas the dehydrogenase activity corresponds closely to the organic substrate utilization rate in anoxic conditions. These results confirm the expected conservatism of the microbiological structural indicators, on the one hand, and the possibility of using the dehydrogenase activity as a reliable biological indicator, on the othe...

TL;DR: In this article, the out-of-plane behavior of welded I-section beam-columns with slender web was investigated and design formulas were proposed for practical application to members with web slenderness 60 to 120.
Abstract: This article, being a companion paper of Gu and Chen (1997), concerns the out-of-plane behavior (lateral-torsional buckling) of welded I-section beam-columns with slender web. Theoretical and experimental studies show that relaxing the strict limit of web slenderness in traditional I-section beam-column design is possible and efficient. Web buckling/deflection does not seriously reduce the out-of-plane bearing capacity of such beam-columns. Design formulas are proposed for practical application to members with web slenderness 60 to 120.
