TL;DR: Measurements on frog muscles in the Larmor frequency range 3 kHz to 75 MHz can be understood quantitatively by a log-gaussian distribution, which supports a close relation to protein solutions.
Abstract: The frequency dependence of the proton spin relaxation in muscle tissue shows that the mobility of the muscle water must be described by a continuous distribution of jumping times instead of the usually assumed two-phase model. Measurements on frog muscles (rana esculenta and rana pipiens, gastrocnemius) in the Larmor frequency range 3 kHz to 75 MHz can be understood quantitatively by a log-gaussian distribution, which supports a close relation to protein solutions.

TL;DR: In some nations student protest has a long history; in others recent student outbursts have created problems never before faced by governmental and university authorities as discussed by the authors. And student protests became a world-wide phenomenon during those years.
Abstract: As the most casual perusal of any major newspaper in almost any country between 1964 and 1969 attests, student protests became a world-wide phenomenon during those years. As Lipset (1969: 495) has stated: “Wherever one looks-at stagnant underdeveloped countries like Indonesia, at rapidly expanding, economically successful ones like Japan, at right-wing dictatorships like Spain, at Communist systems such as Czechoslovakia and Poland, and at such Western democracies as Germany, France, Italy, and the United States-one finds aggressive student movements that challenge their governments for not living up to different sets of social ideals.” In some nations student protest has a long history; in others recent student outbursts have created problems never before faced by governmental and university authorities.

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors utilize a civil disturbance context in order to illustrate a functional gap within the social system that gives impetus to the formation of new groups and organizations, by disrupting ongoing systemic processes, creating new needs, accentuating current social problems and straining existing organizational and institutional capabilities.
Abstract: While groups form in all social contexts, a crisis context produces an environment conducive to rapid group emergence. During crisis situations, established groups and organizations are taxed with the necessity of utilizing all existing personnel and material resources. However, even with a total or fully mobilized effort, there are large &dquo;need&dquo; areas which often go unmet. This results in a functional gap within the social system that gives impetus to the formation of new groups and organizations. A civil disturbance creates such a crisis situation by disrupting ongoing systemic (i.e., community) processes, creating new needs, accentuating current social problems, and straining existing organizational and institutional capabilities. This article will utilize a civil disturbance context in order to illustrate a

TL;DR: Intraperitoneal injection of testosterone caused significant reduction in the mean corrected and uncorrected bursa weights of male and female chicks when compared to oil-injected controls, and weight gain was reduced in the testosterone-injection chicks and, 12 days after injection, the “growth indices” of testosterone-treated male andFemale chicks were significantly less than those of oil- injected controls.

TL;DR: The problematic conjunct of the Church's Thesis has been studied in this article, where it has been shown that it is possible to construct deductively valid and dependent only upon indisputable premises.
Abstract: ‘Church’s Thesis’ (CT hereinafter) is the statement that a function of natural numbers is effectively computable if and only if that function is recursive Like any biconditional, CT may be regarded as a conjunction of two conditionals The arguments treated in this paper have been advanced in support of the so-called ‘problematic conjunct’ of CT, viz that all effectively computable functions are recursive When I use CT then, I shall intend the problematic conjunct So far as I have been able to determine, no one thinks that CT is amenable to anything like a conclusive proof of its truth, though I think that everyone recognizes that it could, at least in principle, be refuted by a suitable counterexample Even Kreisel, who takes CT to be a statement of intuitionistic mathematics, nowhere considers the possibility that CT might be a theorem, though he speaks of ‘finding axioms inconsistent with’ CT1 Perhaps we ought to be surprised, or at least puzzled by this fact, since some of the arguments which have been given for CT look like deductive arguments from premises that are supposed to be beyond dispute Of course, if these arguments really were deductively valid and dependent only upon indisputable premises, the propounders of the arguments would be likely to show more confidence in them than anyone has done

TL;DR: Gerbil preference levels for salt solutions were determined by using the single-stimulus method, and the concentration resulting in the largest acceptance was 0.9%, even though gerbils can utilize salt solutions as high as 6%.
Abstract: Gerbil preference levels for salt solutions were determined by using the single-stimulus method. The concentration resulting in the largest acceptance was 0.9%, even though gerbils can utilize salt solutions as high as 6%. Since the single-stimulus method correlates well with other preference measures, these results should generalize to other testing procedures.

TL;DR: In this paper, general theorems concerning one-to-one continuous functions from connected linearly ordered spaces into Hausdorff continua were obtained and applied to a study of the structure of the arc components of chainable Hausdorn continua.
Abstract: General theorems concerning one-to-one continuous functions from connected linearly ordered spaces into Hausdorff continua are first obtained. These results are applied to a study of the structure of the arc components of chainable Hausdorff continua.

TL;DR: In this paper, Merton distinguishes between individual anomy (which I will define as alienation) and structural anomie, which is hinged upon Durkheim's notion of normlessness.
Abstract: A continuing concern in sociology is the relationship between alienation and aspirations. Merton (1957: 131) sets out to search for an explanation of deviant behavior other than the psychological explanation based largely on Freudian theory, which views man “in an unceasing war between biological impulse and social restraint.” His primary aim‘ was “to discover how some social structures exert a definite pressure upon certain persons in the society to engage in nonconforming rather than conforming conduct” (Merton, 1957: 132). His model is structured around the notion of culturally defined goals and culturally defined means for achieving these goals. When the culturally defined goals become the emphasis and the means to attain these goals are not accessible, anomie results. Merton distinguishes between individual anomy (which I will define as alienation) and structural anomie, which is hinged upon Durkheim’s notion of normlessness. Although Merton does not pursue the notion of anomie as a condition of group life, both anomy and anomie are a result of the disjunction between valued means and goals. Yinger (1 965) distinguishes between

TL;DR: Cannulation of the carotid artery is a useful laboratory tool with few undesirable side effects and can be used for physiological regulation and learning in laboratory rats.
Abstract: The effects of unilateral carotid ligation on physiological regulation and learning were studied in laboratory rats. Body weight, water intake, and T-maze performance were not significantly different from that of sham-operated animals. Cannulation of the carotid artery is, therefore, a useful laboratory tool with few undesirable side effects.
