TL;DR: Vitamin A and p-ionone stimulate carotenogenesis through the normal pathway, probably by interaction with the carA gene product.
Abstract: The presence of vitamin A in the medium results in a large increase in p-carotene content in wildtype Phycomyces blakesleeanus; in carB mutants, which accumulate phytoene, and carR mutants, which accumulate lycopene, the presence of vitamin A results in an increase in these intermediates. In carA mutants, which usually form no carotenoids, vitamin A partially counteracts the mutational block and allows p-carotene synthesis. Vitamin A is not itself converted to p-carotene. p-lonone, long known as a stimulator of carotenogenesis, can also counteract carA mutations. The effects of vitamin A and p-ionone do not occur in the presence of the protein-synthesis inhibitor cycloheximide. Vitamin A and p-ionone stimulate carotenogenesis through the normal pathway, probably by interaction with the carA gene product.

TL;DR: It seems likely that the nitrate reductase complex contains a specific regulatory site, different from the catalytic site, the reduction of which is accompanied by the production of an inactive form of the complex.

TL;DR: Present evidence on the regulation of the nitrate-reducing system of the assimilatory type indicates that nitrate reductase from bacteria, fungi and higher plants as well as nitrite reduct enzyme from bacteria are also subject to interconversion by reduction and oxidation.
Abstract: In algae, the addition of ammonia to living cells and its subsequent removal bring about the metabolic interconversion of the NADH-nitrate reductase complex between an active and an inactive form. Apparently ammonia acts in vivo as an uncoupler of photophosphorylation, thus leading to a rise in the cellular levels of reducing power and ADP. The site of the reversible inactivation is the terminal moiety of the enzyme complex, which is active when oxidized and becomes inactive upon reduction. Present evidence on the regulation of the nitrate-reducing system of the assimilatory type indicates that nitrate reductase from bacteria, fungi and higher plants as well as nitrite reductase from bacteria are also subject to interconversion by reduction and oxidation.

TL;DR: The enzymatic complex nitrate reductase from Chlorella fusca is inactivated by simple thiols, like dithioerythritol and mercaptoethanol, and by sulfite, and in all cases, partial reactivation can be achieved by addition of ferricyanide.

TL;DR: In this article, the use of 4-phenyl-3-thiosemicarbazone of furfural as a gravimetric reagent for palladium is described.
Abstract: The use of 4-phenyl-3-thiosemicarbazone of furfural as a gravimetric reagent for palladium is described. The optimum analytical conditions for precipitation of the palladium complex and the effect of possible interferences have been investigated.

TL;DR: In this article, an experimental approach based on studies of competition between tungstate and molybdate, and on the effect of iron supply to the culture media, was used to ascertain that in the yeast Torulopsis nitratophila, NAD(P)H-nitrate reductase is a molybdoprotein and that NADPH-nitrite reductases is a ferroprotein.

TL;DR: Early cures were obtained in 14 out of 15 female patients with trichomoniasis who were treated with 2 g.
Abstract: SummaryEarly cures were obtained in 14 out of 15 female patients with trichomoniasis who were treated with 2 g. tinidazole given during one day (either as a single or as two doses). The infection in the 1 patient who failed to respond to tinidazole was also resistant to metronidazole. In this study, 2 cases had a re-infection as their sexual partners did not receive simultaneous therapy. No recurrence or re-infection was observed in the married patients whose husbands were treated simultaneously. The tolerance was good in both the male and female patients.
