Abstract: Microwave energy has been developed recently for the extraction of organic compounds from environmental matrices after its use in inorganic chemistry for trace metal analysis. The development in microwave techniques has occurred because of a need for a rapid, safe and cheap method. Conventional techniques for the extraction of solid matrices (such as Soxhlet) are time and solvent consuming and the analysis of numerous samples in environmental studies is limited by the extraction step. This review recalls the importance of the extraction step in the analytical procedure for the analysis of organic contaminants and the principles of extraction of solid matrices (sediment, soil, air particulate matter...). The theory of microwave heating is su m- marised and the microwave ovens used in analytical chemistry are described. Then, the review attempts to summarise all the stud- ies about microwave assisted extraction for organic contaminants, on one hand in multimode microwave ovens in closed vessels and on the other hand in focused microwave ovens at atmospheric pressure. The microwave assisted extraction methods of volatile compounds are summarised. Finally, advantages of methods compared to conventional extraction are discussed.

TL;DR: The Rapid On-Line Sampler- Injector as mentioned in this paper was designed and set-up to largely extend sampling capabilities in hazardous media, and it has a lot of applications, both in production (process control in petro- leum, chemical, nuclear plants, etc.) and academic and industrial researches and development.
Abstract: Withdrawing of representative and reliable microsamples down to 1/100th mg is far from trivial, especially for extreme conditions such as high temperature and high pressure conditions or very corrosive media. The new Rapid On-Line Sampler- Injector presented herein was designed and set-up to largely extend sampling capabilities in hazardous media. It is largely use d in our laboratory to measure vapour-liquid equilibria. It has a lot of applications, both in production (process control in pet ro- leum, chemical, nuclear plants, etc.) and academic and industrial researches and development (laboratory instruments, pilot plants…).

TL;DR: In this paper, a low-cost process based on microbial activation in the root zone, is a novel method under deep investigation, where the main remediation methods are containment, thermal desorption, incineration, and microbial degradation.
Abstract: Polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) are potentially mutagenic and carcinogenic substances occurring at various concentrations in atmosphere, soils, waters and sediments. PAHs, inherited both from natural and anthropogenic processes, are persistent organic pollutants (POP) due to their chemical stability and biodegradation resistance. The increase of road transportation, and of industrial and agricultural activities has led to a notable build up of PAH amounts in the environmental media. For cases of heavy soil pollution, the main remediation methods are containment, thermal desorption, incineration, and microbial degradation. Phytoremediation, a low-cost process based on microbial activation in the root zone, is a novel method under deep investigation.

TL;DR: In this article, a tandem mass spectral approach to the structural characterization of O-diglycosides is presented, where both the positive and negative ion modes have been employed to obtain the structural information on the carboydrate sequence, aglycone and diglycosidic part.
Abstract: In this article we review tandem mass spectral approaches to the structural characterization of flavonoid glycosides wich are ubiquitous secondary plant metabolites. It is demonstrated how structural information on O-diglycosides can be obtained on (i) the carboydrate sequence, (ii) the aglycone part, and (iii) the linkage in the diglycosidic part. Both the positive and negative ion modes have been employed.
