Abstract: The essay discusses Joan Scott's key text, " Gender: a useful category of historical analysis", which has been a main reference for students of gender (in Social Sciences, in general, and in Education, in particular) in the Brazilian context. It examines the affinities of Scott's proposal with the poststructuralist studies (emphasizing especially her use of the Foucaultian concept of power and Derrida' s desconstructivist procedure) and the political and pedagogical implications of this approach.

Abstract: Based on the foucaultian perspective and cultural studies, this paper specifically applies relations between curriculum, culture, school knowledge, identity and power, by analysis of the evaluation mechanism of descriptive expert opinions produced at an elementary school, describing their strategic functions in the cultural policy of school-childhood and school knowledge. It presents several conclusions which allow one to suspend this school cultural policy mechanism so as to permanently question the thought systems and problem forms of social experience in which we find ourselves.

I discuss operational forms of some AD concepts, such as interdiscoursivity, exposing a way of grasping social diversities and conflicts, from discourse interior. Theoretical discussion is permanently related to my research object: the construction of adolescence discourse, from Brazilian media in the 90' .

Abstract: This article tries to analyse the historical circumstances in which total quality appears in Brazilian education, as well as the impossibility to apply it in this social sphere and its pretentiously technical, and consequently, ideological character. It also analyses Brazilian conjuncture in the 90es, in order to understand the productive restructuring of the country and the need of an approach among business and educational sectors. This approximation originated the initiative to apply total quality to education. This article studies the ideologic nature of administrative theories, especially of total quality, in order to argue about the possibility of this application in aducation, due to the speci fic nature of the educational process.
