Abstract: Howard Gardner's theory of multiple intelligences, described in Frames of Mind (1985), sparked a revolution of sorts in classrooms around the world, a mutiny against the notion that human beings have a single, fixed intelligence. The fervor with which educators embraced his premise that we have multiple intelligences surprised Gardner himself. \"It obviously spoke to some sense that people had that kids weren't all the same and that the tests we had only skimmed the surface about the differences among kids,\" Gardner said.

Abstract: A young man at a midwestern middle school said of his social studies teacher, "She doesn't label us, and she helps us do all kinds of things." That student expressed very simply my evolving understanding of style since I created the 4MAT System in 1979. The way one perceives reality and reacts to it forms a pattern over time. This pattern comes to dominate the way one integrates ideas, skills, and information about people and the way one adapts knowledge and forms meaning.

Abstract: Paul Gilster, the author of Digital Literacy (1997) and The Web Navigator (1997), began his career as a scholar and teacher in Medieval English and history, then worked as a commercial aviator, and then became interested in computers when he began writing. He says that his interest in technology began when he bought a computer as a word processor—but this interest grew as he explored and as he wrote books to help others conquer this new medium.
