TL;DR: The results indicate that continuous inbreeding among the SSK community in Bangalore may have enhanced their genetic predisposition to this disease.
Abstract: Vitiligo among the community Somavashan Sahasajuna Kashatriya(SSK) of Baugalore surveyed by us during February-March, 1987, was found to be characterised by an earlier age of onset and a very high (90.38%) familial incidence. This community at present is small and is believed to have migrated'from Gujarat-Maharashtra border where the incidence of vitiligo in a related community, the Khatris is already high (3.6%). The results indicate that continuous inbreeding among the SSK community in Bangalore may have enhanced their genetic predisposition to this disease.

TL;DR: Female workers employed in the cashew nut industry in Karnataka to slice off the outer hard shells from the nuts and thus exposed to the chashew nut shell oil had a characteristic cauterization type of reaction manifesting as brownish-black, thickened sheets of dead skin covering the dorsal as well as the palmar aspects of hands including the fingers and feet.
Abstract: Seventy five female workers employed in the cashew nut industry in Karnataka to slice off the outer hard shells from the nuts and thus exposed to the chashew nut shell oil had a characteristic cauterization type of reaction manifesting as brownish-black, thickened sheets of dead skin covering the dorsal as well as the palmar aspects of hands including the fingers and feet. Smaller but similer lesions were also seen on these parts of the forearms, abdomen, neck and face which were not covered with clothes. The fingers were thinned and tapering and several nails of the hands and feet were thickened, discolored and eaten away. The other changes included loss of the dermatoglyphic patterns, maceration of the hands, small pits on the finger tips and pitted keratolysis seen in some cases only. Similar changes were also seen on the feet of both the male workers exposed to the same oil, in the section which extracts the oil from the sliced shells. In contrast 29, feamle wokers engaged to peel off the thin reddish covering on the cashew nut had normal hands and feet, except for the two callosities on the flexural aspect of the proximal phalanx of the right middle finger and proximal interphalangeal joint of the right index finger respectively, caused by the friction of the peeling knife. An open patch test with the cashew nut shell oil used as such in 17 workers produced a cauterization type of reaction in 32 workers irrespective of the nature of their duties, while the standard occluded patch test with 10% cashew nut shell oil in polyethylene glycol showed a mild cauterization type of reaction in only 6 workers. Patch tests with 1% and 0.1% concentrations of the shell oil were negative in all the workers. Two barrier creams tested to protect the workers from the cashew nut shell oil produced reasonably effective results within a week.

TL;DR: An ederly woman developed multiple keratoacanthomas on the mons pubic and labia majora that responded well to topical 5-fluorouracil therapy.
Abstract: An ederly woman developed multiple keratoacanthomas on the mons pubic and labia majora. Some lesion coalesced to from large irregular plaques with multiple craters. Biopsy of a well developed nodule revealed keratin - filled craters, pseudoepitheliomatous hyperplasia with horn pearls and dyskeratosis of prickle cells which appeared eosinophilio and glassy. Though a few lesions involuted spontaneously, some persisted. These responded well to topical 5-fluorouracil therapy. There was no recurrence of lesions, on long follow-up.

TL;DR: Primary inoculation tuberculosis in two children confined to the face was seen over a period of six months and the lesion started subsiding with antitubercular treatment in both the cases.
Abstract: Primary inoculation tuberculosis in two children confined to the face was seen over a period of six months the first case was an eleven year old boy with a painless non-healing ulcerative nodule over the left ala nasi with matted' non-tender submandibular lymphadenopath-y of 2 months duration. Mantoux test and biopsies of the lesion and the lymph node helped in the diagnosis. The second child was a six-year-old boy with a painless ulcerative lesion over the left cheek of 5 weeks duration. The left submandibular group of lymph nodes were enlarged, non-tender and matted. Aspiration cytology showed eptihelioid cells, lymphocytes, polymorphs and eosinophils. Mantoux test negative initially became positive by 2 months. The lesion started subsiding with antitubercular treatment in both the cases.

TL;DR: A 47 year old male patient had extensive verrucous lesions on the right upper limb for 33 years which revealed a low - grade squamous cell carcinoma which was treated with excision and grafting and died 10 months later following a massive bleed from an axillary vessel.
Abstract: A 47 year old male patient had extensive verrucous lesions on the right upper limb for 33 years. One of the lesions-4eveloped ulceration which had not healed for6 years. A clinical diagnosis of chromoblastomycosis was confirmed histopathologically and mycologically, Cladosporium cladosporioides being the organism cultured. Combined treatment with amphotericin B and 5fluorouracil gave good response with most lesions resolving. A few verrucous plaques and the ulcer persisted. Biopsy from the ulcer revealed a low - grade squamous cell carcinoma which was treated with excision and grafting. A year later, the patient developed metastasis in the axillary lymph nodes which also showed fungal granuloma at the time of biopsy. The axilla was irradiated with 4500 rads and three courses of bleomycin injections were given. However, he died 10 months later following a massive bleed from an axillary vessel.

Abstract: Five women with lympho-cutaneous sporotrichosis with a mean age of 46.8 years, were seen over the last 3 years. Four belonged to rural Himachal Pradesh and one to Saharanpur, Uttar Pradesh. Upper extremity was affected in three patients. Sporotrichum schenkie was isolated form 3 patients and confirmed by the mice pathogenicity test. S ' Schenki was demonstrated in the histopathology specimen in one patient. All the patients responded to oral potassium iodide, complete clearance occurring after a mean period of 3.5 months. One patient developed mild iodism and another had crythema nodosu'm like eurption during treatment. Himachal Pradesh seems to be harbouring pockets of sporotrichosis.

Abstract: Adenoid cystic carcinoma commonly arises from the major and minor salivary glands. Primary cutaneous adenoid cystic carcinoma is extremely rare. The tumour was hard, non-tender, and fixed to the underlying stucture with visible congested veins. Histopathologically, large cell masses with adenoid or cribriform pattern, forming cystic spaces at places were seen. Solid epithelial nests and a few ductal structures were also seen. Plumonary metastases were another unusual feature in our patient perhaps not reported before.

TL;DR: To evaluate contact hypersensitivity to some of the commonly used Indian nuts, patch tests were undertaken with cashew nuts, ground nuts, almonds and pistachio in 3 groups of individuals: patients exposed to the corresponding nut and having dermatitis on their fingertips, controls having no dermatitis, but exposure to the nut, and unexposed group.
Abstract: To evaluate contact hypersensitivity to some of the commonly used Indian nuts, patch tests were undertaken with cashew nuts, ground nuts, almonds and pistachio in 3 groups of individuals: (1) patients exposed to the corresponding nut and having dermatitis on their fingertips, (2) controls having no dermatitis, but exposed to the nut, and (3) unexposed group. A paste prepared by Cushing the nut and used as such gave positive patch test 'reactions in, all the 6 patients tested with cashew - nut, ground - nut and almonds, and these looked to be irritant reactions. Further patch tests with these three nuts were therefore done with 1:1 dilution of the paste with distilled water. The number of patients showing positive patch tests out of the total number.
