TL;DR: In this article, the authors examined the practical, social, recreational, educational, psychological, and spiritual needs of detained juvenile delinquents in regards to using the collections, facilities and services at the Tangerang Juvenile Detention Center Library and the Salemba Detention Center library.
Abstract: It is widely acknowledged that libraries play a positive and important role in the lives of prisoners, just as they do with other people. They do not only provide resources to support various educational, recreational and welfare programs, but they also create opportunities for prisoners to acquire new skills, skills that they may need once they leave prison. In addition, prison libraries also help address various psychological issues, attitude problems, as well as other difficulties in coping with prison life. According to the Ministry of Law and Human Rights of Indonesia, as of 2013, there are 4,622 children in 16 different prisons in Indonesia. Such statistics show that there is a great need for well-resourced and well-staffed libraries inside these prisons in order to support the educational, recreational, and psychological needs of imprisoned children. It is evident that the existence of prison libraries and its library collections, facilities, as well as other services could serve as effective rehabilitation for the prisoners and the detainees – to help them develop awareness of their own actions, as well as associated risks and consequences. The purpose of this study is to examine the practical, social, recreational, educational, psychological, and spiritual needs of detained juvenile delinquents in regards to using the collections, facilities and services at the Tangerang Juvenile Detention Center Library and the Salemba Detention Center Library. This study is based on informational interviews conducted with the Head Librarians at the Tangerang Juvenile Detention Center Library (JDC) and the Salemba Detention Center Library. During these interviews, various problems and challenges related to ethics, professionalism, and other professional issues associated to working as a prison librarian, were discussed. Other issues related to staffing, organizational structure, facilities and the resource situation of the Tangerang Juvenile Detention Center Library and the Salemba Detention Center Library were also addressed.

TL;DR: The requirements, awareness and perceptions of catalogers in academic libraries in Turkey about RDA implementations are revealed to reveal the importance of developing catalogers' opinions and perceptions regarding of RDA implementation.
Abstract: Integration of user-generated content with library catalogs is a remarkable point with the developments in web technologies and semantic networks. In the light of these developments, library catalogs are linked with open data resources like VIAF, DBpedia and amazon.com with the aim of bibliographic description via URI based structures. On the other hand "Resource Description and Access" (RDA), as a new cataloging standard, supports libraries for their bibliographic description studies by increasing access points. Furthermore, many initiatives have been launched by countries who would like to keep themselves up-to-date by using and implementing RDA in their library catalogs. In this context, developing catalogers' opinions and perceptions regarding of RDA implementations is of great importance. In this study, it is aimed to reveal the requirements, awareness and perceptions of catalogers in academic libraries in Turkey about RDA implementations. The contents of this paper were originally presented at the international conference FSR 2014 "Faster, Smarter, Richer: Reshaping the library Catalogue", held in Rome, 27-28 February 2014.

Abstract: This article tries to highlight some issues related to subject indexing applied to fiction, with a focus on how it could be implemented on children's literature and then also on adults fiction. In fact, Italy is one of the country that does not add subject indexing to fiction, and despite the numerous and ongoing debates on this topic there is not any National plan to solve this issue. Users who requires more this kind of research are children and teenagers: children’s literature, in fact, is involved in some interesting steps on subject indexing applied to fiction, even if this initiative is carried out in an independent way by individual library networks.

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors discuss the management and use of the videogames in the library services in Italia and discuss the reasons for reassessing the videogame medium in cultural institutions, along with the features of its language and its possible applications.
EnglishThis article deals with the introduction, the management and the use of the videogames in the library services. The reasons for reassessing the videogame medium in cultural institutions have been examined, along with the features of its language and its possible applications (circulation, gaming...). Manuals on the specific management of the game in the library, from circulation to gaming in library have been taken into account during the writing of this paper, as well as essays and articles on videogames (on blogs and online newspapers). The debate with librarians who have experience in these services have also led to a detailed analysis of the current reality, both in Italy and abroad. The introduction of videogames can causes some preservation, space, provisions, cataloging issues. There is still little attention to the cultural value of videogames, especially in Italy, but libraries starting similar are growing, as well as the interest on this topic by other institutions, although Italy is still lagging behind other Nations.

Abstract: Using the 9 areas identified by the ISBD as a guide, the paper proposes a descriptive comparison between the choices carried out by the authors of RDA and REICAT. Two different ways of understanding the basic entities of the bibliographic description are shaped through a detailed analysis of individual choices, and accordingly to this, two different perspectives for the future organization of resources. REICAT are even linked to the organization "on board", to punctuation and to the concept of the catalog, while the RDA is outlined as a new structure, designed for full flow of data through a semantic platform.

Abstract: The contribution of Jose Lopez Yepes has as main purpose to propose a reflection on the fundamentals of the Documentation, the Library and Information Science in a time of great changes and the loss of many landmarks. According to the scholar we must start from the study of the concepts of information and documents and their close relationship. The message, says Yepes, is transmitted through the document in space and time and so in turn become an important source of information. Information is therefore the core and foundation of documentation and related disciplines, although it can not be considered an exclusive object of their study. We must then go back to think about the document, and in particular on its nature, since it is a necessary starting point for scholars of the subject. The author, in this article, in addition to signaling the need for a theoretical study aims to rediscover the work of Paul Otlet and in particular the Traite de Documentation (1934). The aim is not simply to pay tribute to the founder of modern documentation, but to invite to recognize the relevance of a thought that still can make an important contribution to the redefinition of key concepts of the discipline.

TL;DR: The work is organized in two parts: the former contains theoretical foundations of cataloguing (FRBR, ICP, semantic web and linked data) and a critical presentation of RDA guidelines, which aims to make possible creation of well-structured metadata for any kind of resources, reusable in any context and technological environment.
Abstract: RDA (Resource Description and Access) is going to promote a great change. In fact, guidelines – rather than rules – are addressed to anyone wishes to describe and make accessible a cultural heritage collection or tout court a collection: librarians, archivists, curators and professionals in any other branch of knowledge. The work is organized in two parts: the former contains theoretical foundations of cataloguing (FRBR, ICP, semantic web and linked data), the latter a critical presentation of RDA guidelines. RDA aims to make possible creation of well-structured metadata for any kind of resources, reusable in any context and technological environment. RDA offers a “set of guidelines and instructions to create data for discovery of resources”. Guidelines stress four actions – to identify, to relate (from FRBR/FRAD user tasks and ICP), to represent and to discover – and a noun: resource. To identify entities of Group 1 and Group 2 of FRBR (Work, Expression, Manifestation, Item, Person, Family, Corporate Body); to relate entities of Group 1 and Group 2 of FRBR, by means of relationships. To enable users to represent and discover entities of Group 1 and Group 2 by means of their attributes and relationships. These last two actions are the reason of users’ searches, and users are the pinpoint of the process. RDA enables the discovery of recorded knowledge, that is any resource conveying information, any resources transmitting intellectual or artistic content by means of any kind of carrier and media. RDA is a content standard, not a display standard nor an encoding standard: it gives instructions to identify data and does not care about how display or encode data produced by guidelines. RDA requires an original approach, a metanoia, a deep change in the way we think about cataloguing. Innovations in RDA are many: it promotes interoperability between catalogs and other search tools, it adopts terminology and concepts of the Semantic Web, it is a global standard, it can be applied by different agencies to create data. RDA is expected to be enriched by wide community of professional, from all the world, in a collaborative, well-aware, recognized and global perspective. By RDA, the great tradition of cataloguing goes one step further and enters in the digital age definitively.

TL;DR: The paper will discuss issues by presenting the Sapienza Digital Library and its goals of identifying, making accessible and preserving significant research heritage in digital form, to make it understandable and reusable both for the scientific community and professionals, and for no-academic users.
Abstract: One of the most critical problems for research archives is their definition. Without a common dictionary and a robust conceptual framework, academic research heritage, specifically if in digital form, is at risk; the efforts made for its preservation and exploitation will not be able to face old and new challenges and even less to exploit technological potentialities and new languages available. The tools developed for making accessible and preserving the academic outputs generally support creation of digital library and repositories for publications or for individual items. Specialized and efficient tools for identifying, describing, making available and preserving this heritage are requir ed. Compliance with acknowledged standards is necessary, but it is also essential to define consistent workflows, approve adequate policies and build sustainable services. The paper will discuss these issues by presenting the Sapienza Digital Library and its goals of identifying, making accessible and preserving significant research heritage in digital form. The ambition is to make it understandable and reusable both for the scientific community and professionals , and for no-academic users. Digital resources are described by the investigators themselves on the basis of detailed policies and with the support of professionals from the archival and librarian domains. Special attention is devoted to resources contextualization, to the provenance information and to the presentation of research projects and their outcomes. Collections are described and made accessible taking into consideration their specific domain vocabularies and standards and a validation process is in place to ensure a qualified approach.

TL;DR: The purpose of this approach is to understand, from the one hand, the role of the archival conceptual metodology for the cultural heritage enhancement; from the other, to propose a model to let heterogeneous disciplines able to dialogue in a shared semantic perspective.

Abstract: The paper discusses the nature of values in general and the nature and utility of the values of librarianship. Delineates the changes that have occurred and are occurring in the wider world and the nature of change; also the importance of values in providing a framework for dealing with present and future change. Stresses the centrality of the human record to societal progress, the place of the human record in cultural heritage, and the central purpose of libraries in facilitating interaction with the human record and furthering the transmission of cultural heritage. Urges a turning away from the alien value systems of information technology, consumerism, materialism, and corporate management, and a consequent set of alliances between libraries and a wide range of cultural institutions and associations.

Abstract: EnglishOptical media (such as CDs, DVDs and Blu-ray Disc) are probably among the most commonly used media for the preservation of digital records over time, especially in the case of digital archives whose producers are individuals, families or small to medium sized organizations. These media are fragile and it is important to know precisely how to manage them and which precautions should be taken in order to get reasonable assurance on their ability to preserve documents. This article aims to clarify what are the critical issues of optical media, how to take care of them and what are the strategies to be put in place to prevent the loss of documents that are stored on them. italianoLe memorie che si basano sulla tecnologia ottica (come i CD, i DVD e i Blu-ray Disc) sono probabilmente tra quelle piu utilizzate per la conservazione nel tempo dei documenti digitali, soprattutto nel caso di archivi digitali i cui soggetti produttori sono singoli individui, famiglie o organizzazioni di dimensioni medio-piccole. Abstract: The contribution discusses some considerations on the changes of the bibliographic universe, with particular attention to the changes due to the application of RDA guidelines on cataloguing and considering also a new-generation ILS presented on May 27 th 2015 during a seminar held at the University of Florence. Developed by @Cult, the ILS Olisuite/WeCat allows the generation of bibliographic descriptions by creating data in Linked Open Data compatible format, while taking into account the relevant of records created with MARC21. Theoretical and technological models of reference are BIBFRAME and Semantic Web protocols, which are essential for a catalogue based on the functions to "identify" and to "connect" entities using the entities and relationships attributes.

TL;DR: This paper focuses in particular on the most recent international debate on the social value of the digital library and its role in society.
Abstract: The interest in digital libraries began in the early nineties of the last century, particularly in the United States. At first the argument involved a few computer scientists and some librarian. However, after the first terminological uncertainties ("electronic" library, "virtual" library, etc.), digital libraries have become an object of interdisciplinary study and today constitute a research field of LIS. Over the years there has been an evolution of topics and approaches. The earlier prevailing interest was in the management and technological aspects of digital libraries and then emerged the need to rediscover the role of digital libraries in society. This paper focuses in particular on the most recent international debate on the social value of the digital library.

TL;DR: The rationalization experience accomplished on hybrid documentation built up over nearly thirty years in a very unique bank office such as the Historical Archives of Intesa Sanpaolo Group is described, which leads to functions redefinition and a modernization of the office working habits.
Abstract: This article is a 'case report' which describes the rationalization experience accomplished on hybrid documentation - half paper and half electronic – built up over nearly thirty years in a very unique bank office such as the Historical Archives of Intesa Sanpaolo Group. It comprises not only management documents, common to any administrative organization, but also many cataloguing and internal information files, related to the working team activities. Definitive inventories were not included in the plan, as they are stored in the xDams database. Through the analysis of office-produced electronic documents, the project entailed the review of procedures and workflows, which lead to functions redefinition and a modernization of the office working habits. The description of what happened will therefore be useful to any administrative office. To prepare the basis of this challenging project we scrutinized studies on organization issues and digital resources management. Alongside university textbooks, it was above all important to study working methods already applied elsewhere by reading guidelines, articles, policies and case studies. At that point, work was divided into several phases, which can be summarized in: on-going dialogue with staff members, careful and meticulous analysis of all kind of documents and their application software, the study, selection and retention of duplicate or not definitive documents (such as minutes, drafts, semi-finished studies), the comparison between paper and hybrid archives and their coexistence, and finally the reaching of a new and definitive management system and a related tree network.

TL;DR: This work aims at showing the topicality of controlling access points to information in order to avoid data proliferation, an event that ultimately produces ‘noise’ in the activities of information retrieval and data description.
Abstract: Accuracy in management and presentation of data is probably the most relevant feature that characterizes libraries catalogues in the wide universe of information available online. This characteristic, which originates from the basic need of organizing knowledge, requires a constant activity of control. Authority control is part of such an activity. This paper examines authority control of personal names, and how it is carried out. The first part shows the international standards and local codes that govern it: these are necessary to understand the activities that create the network of links and references of the data in a catalogue entry. This activity is also influenced by the management information system; the second part of the paper thus examines the Italian Sistema Bibliotecario Nazionale and specifically the library system of the University of Florence, through an analysis of procedures, workflows and monitoring activities. The third part points out the importance of verifying data and access points in databases and in the web itself, in addition to catalogues, in order to manage information in a uniform and shared way. This work aims at showing the topicality of controlling access points to information in order to avoid data proliferation, an event that ultimately produces ‘noise’ in the activities of information retrieval and data description. It also aims at stressing the importance of promoting correct information in the web within a set of sharing policies pursued by library cooperation systems, also through technologies currently offered by the web itself.
