Abstract: A general review of development and evolution of seismic design codes in China is provided in the paper.Major features contained in several versions and the present update of 'Code for seismic design of buildings’ are summarized.Main items regarding to earthquake levels, design earthquake acceleration, essential requirements of seismic design, site assessment and classification, seismic response spectra, seismic alalysis as well as regulations of seismic calculations and detailing for each type of structures, including spacious and underground buildings have been seriously revised in the past. The revision of the Code TJ 11—78 was timely executed based on the investigation on damages and collapses of different buildings caused in the 1976 Tangshan Earthquake.Buildings and infrastructures were put into the real tests in the May 12,2008 Great Wenchuan Earthquake, revealing that the three seismic goals in terms of operational under the minor earthquake, repairable under the moderate earthquake and life-safety under the major earthquake can be achieved as long as the design and construction following the code requirements.Building damages and failures,of course, occurred unavoidably due to the much higher intensity than expected by design code.Based on extensive reconnaissance investigation of building damage in the regions with moderate to severe earthquake intensities, regulations of the 'Code for seismic design of buildings’(GB 50011—2001) are updated regarding to the multi-fortification,strong column-weak beam, link beam of shear walls, integration and ductility of masonry structures, exit ways and stair shaft,non-structural elements, etc. The concept of performance-based seismic design has been implemented in the new version of the code that improves and enriches the seismic design approach of so-called two stages for three earthquake levels.

TL;DR: In this paper, the load code for the design of building structures has been revised against the general background of global climate change, global anti-terrorist and globalization of economy, and the main principles and points of the revision of the code can be outlined as: Based on the statistics of recently collected climate data, the reference wind load and snow load for cities all around China shall be updated.
Abstract: The national standard 'Load code for the design of building structures' has been revised against the general background of global climate change, global anti-terrorist and globalization of economy. The main principles and points of the revision of the code can be outlined as: Based on the statistics of recently collected climate data, the reference wind load and snow load for cities all around China shall be updated. The reference air temperature will be provided to cope with the threat to structural safety which may be caused by disasters of extreme weather.Thermal actions and accidental loads shall be added so that the scope of the code will be expanded from direct action only to direct and indirect actions to fulfill the need of design against the actions of thermal, explosion and impact for specific building structures.Overall amendment for wind load covering wind profiles, pressure coefficients and expressions of along wind dynamic response shall be carried out and enhanced so that the expressions and parameters used for determination of wind load will be more reasonable, transparent and international.Provisions for calculation of equivalent wind load induced by cross-wind and torsion dynamic response shall be prescribed to meet the need of design for super high-rise building projects.

TL;DR: In this article, the revised contents of composite steel concrete beams in China Code for Design of Steel Structures (GB50017-2002), including the designing method and basic theory of negative bending regions in continuous beam, partial shear connection, composite beams with profiled sheeting, and the reduced stiffness method for calculating the deflection of the composite beam.
Abstract: This paper briefly introduces the revised contents of composite steel concrete beams in China Code for Design of Steel Structures (GB50017-2002), including the designing method and basic theory of negative bending regions in continuous beam, partial shear connection, composite beams with profiled sheeting, and the reduced stiffness method for calculating the deflection of the composite beam. The issues that need to be further done are also presented.

TL;DR: In this paper, the bond performance between carbon fiber sheets (CFSs) and concrete under different load-carrying conditions was investigated, and the variation regularity of bonded performance was analyzed.
Abstract: specimens have been tested to investigate the bond performance between carbon fiber sheets (CFSs) and concrete under different load-carrying conditions. Based on statistical testing data, the variation regularity of bonded performance has been analyzed, and the bond mechanism has been described.

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors focused on the description and analysis of the damage phenomena of engineering geology, buildings and lifeline engineering structures based on the on-site investigation of the earthquake damage.
Abstract: This paper focuses on the description and analysis of the damage phenomena of engineering geology, buildings and lifeline engineering structures based on the on-site investigation of the earthquake damage. Some valuable lessons learned from this extreme earthquake are presented including the suitable building structures should be chosen for important buildings to resist the seismic action in the strong earthquake area when the building is designed;the concept design and applications of energy-absorbed and vibration-reduced techniques should be paid attention;the comprehensive safe evaluations for the existing buildings should be done in the strong seismic active area;the seismic designs and researches on bridges and pavement should be emphasized, and the seismic design and research on facilities of communication, power and water supplies should be regarded as key issues for disaster relief after earthquake. The content in this paper may be as a reference to seismic design of buildings, reconstruction of disaster area and revision of corresponding codes and regulations.
