TL;DR: An approach to intelligent decision making support at its tactical and operational levels is discussed and the main idea behind the approach consists in knowledge-based creation of a problem model and its interpretation as a constraint satisfaction problem.
Abstract: An approach to intelligent decision making support at its tactical and operational levels is discussed. The main idea behind the approach consists in knowledge-based creation of a problem model, instantiation of the problem by data values from information sources, and its interpretation as a constraint satisfaction problem. The proposed approach stages are mapped into Simon’s decision process model. Approach applicability is illustrated through a case study of disaster response.

TL;DR: This paper introduces a four-level model representing organizational structures such as social networks, enterprises, communities, and task forces in a decision process and discusses how context intervenes in this fourlevel model and the role of context at each level.
Abstract: Traditional companies used to be authoritarian and built around hierarchical organizational charts. Facing more dynamic environments in recent history, many companies experimented with newer forms of organization, usually cutting down long decision paths and fostering lean structures able to react to rapid changes in the marketplace. We believe that the future of organizational structures lies in hybrid, dynamic models allowing enterprises to internally move from bureaucratic to adhocratic structures at will, according to changing contexts and focuses of attention. This paper introduces a four-level model representing organizational structures such as social networks, enterprises, communities, and task forces in a decision process. It also discusses how context intervenes in this fourlevel model and the role of context at each level.

TL;DR: The goal of this software tool is to minimize the total number of working positions and spindle heads, while reaching a given cycle time and satisfying the above constraints.
Abstract: In this paper we present a prototype of decision aid system for the logical layout design of unit-head machines with rotary table. User can add and modify characteristics of the part to be machined, the constraints related to the design of spindle heads and working positions, as well as precedence constraints related to operations. The goal of this software tool is to minimize the total number of working positions and spindle heads, while reaching a given cycle time and satisfying the above constraints. The proposed method to solve the problem is based on its reduction to a constrained shortest path problem.

TL;DR: The article describes the development of a system called SAIDA in the domain of hydrology with the help of the KSM modeling tool, which includes an advanced knowledge based architecture with multiple symbolic representation.
Abstract: Knowledge modeling tools are software tools that follow a modelling approach to help developers in building a knowledge-based system. The purpose of this article is to show the advantages of using this type of tools in the development of complex knowledge-based decision support systems. In order to do so, the article describes the development of a system called SAIDA in the domain of hydrology with the help of the KSM modeling tool. SAIDA operates on real-time receiving data recorded by sensors (rainfall, water levels, flows, etc.). It follows a multi-agent architecture to interpret the data, predict the future behavior and recommend control actions. The system includes an advanced knowledge based architecture with multiple symbolic representation. KSM was especially useful to design and implement the complex knowledge based architecture in an efficient way.

TL;DR: An open-architecture system for the integration of shop-floor in the logistic chain is described and is based on connection model between Logistic system users and service providers, through an intermediate platform called PEGASE.
Abstract: The Integrated Logistics Information System (ILIS) relates global logistics and involves the integration of information relating to production means, storage points and means of transport. This can be done using computing tools such as GroupWare applications. Interconnections on a large scale in an environment of heterogeneous networks and machines requires a high level of interoperability. This paper describes an open-architecture system for the integration of shop-floor in the logistic chain. The proposed system exploits the open Internet standards and is based on connection model between Logistic system users and service providers, through an intermediate platform called PEGASE. Real time Information delivered by shop-floor is stored in the corresponding service databases. Periodically, this information is transmitted to Logistic system. The access rights to monitor/control, operator system(s), retrieve historical data and configure operation parameters are granted to several types of users based on th...

TL;DR: This paper presents a pseudopolynomial algorithm for the reliability allocation problem in series-parallel structures, and Associating this algorithm with the previous one, is able to solve reliability and redundancy allocation problems in more complex systems like series- parallel-series and parallel-series-par parallel structures.
Abstract: Reliability optimization is one of the most important steps in industrial systems design. We consider a system composed of different technologies, with the same functionality, in parallel. We assume that each technology is composed of components in series. The purpose is to allocate the reliability of each component in order to minimize the total cost, with a minimal reliability level for the system. In most of the studies, components reliability is assumed to be a decision variable which may be any real value between zero and one. In reality, only a finite number of components, with the same function in a system, are available on the market. Then, components reliability must be chosen among a finite set of values. In our previous works, we proposed a decision tool for the design of parallel-series systems. We present in this paper a pseudopolynomial algorithm for the reliability allocation problem in series-parallel structures. Associating this algorithm with the previous one, we are able to solve reliab...

TL;DR: A decision-making system for the automation of the postal sorting in Tunisia is developed and would be usable in other Arab countries and the oriental countries where the mail often makes simultaneous use of bilingual Arabic and Latin writings.

TL;DR: This paper deals with the consideration of errors in inventory management related decisions and analyses whether RFID is cost effective in tackling this issue.
Abstract: One of the implicit assumptions considered in the majority of investigations performed in the area of inventory management is that the physical flow that passes through an inventory system as well as the associated information flow are free from defects. In other words, for a given type of product, the level of the available inventory shown by the information system corresponds exactly to the physical quantity really available. However, various factors can create a difference between the expected and the effective physical and information flows. The performance of such inventory systems whose flows are disturbed by errors can be improved by using advanced product identification and data capture technologies such as the RFID (Radio Frequency Identification) technology. This paper deals with the consideration of errors in inventory management related decisions and analyses whether RFID is cost effective in tackling this issue.

TL;DR: A method of studying interactions based on a semantic analysis, with the aim of demonstrating the effects of any given change of an enterprise, on the basis of the organicube.
Abstract: An enterprise is a complex and evolving system. With huge amounts of information being held locally or internally, it is sometimes difficult to keep abreast of developments. A global vision of the enterprise has become a necessity for rapid and correct decision-making, to make a decision and being fully aware of all the possible repercussions. This article proposes a method of studying interactions based on a semantic analysis, with the aim of demonstrating the effects of any given change. This is done on the basis of the organicube, a general model for auditing and representing an enterprise with its different aspects in a simple, but complete way, no matter its structure or size.

TL;DR: The design and implementation of the hybrid architecture of the HILDA is described, with details on the domain specific knowledge embedded in the ANN and RBS modules.
Abstract: Artificial neural networks (ANN) are powerful tools for pattern matching and have proven useful in fault detection and diagnosis. Rule based systems (RBS) have the ability to process complex reasoning paths and explain the results of an analysis. The Hybrid Intelligent Logistics Diagnostic Assistant (HILDA) combines these technologies to augment the abilities of a logistics analyst. HILDA aids a logistics analyst working with the Mobility Aircraft Availability Forecasting (MAAF) simulation in trying to balance the requirements of a mission schedule versus the personnel and aircraft resources available at a set of airbases. This paper describes the design and implementation of the hybrid architecture, with details on the domain specific knowledge embedded in the ANN and RBS modules. Examples show how the HILDA prototype is successful in aiding a decision maker in converging to a successful mission/resource scenario.
