TL;DR: In this paper, the chromium content in tannery effluent located in Bara and Parsa districts of Nepal and Sirsiya River which is an ultimate drainage of these waste water streams has been investigated.
Abstract: Spectrophotometric method using diphenylcarbazide as a colour developing reagent has been used to analyze the chromium content in tannery effluent located in Bara and Parsa districts of Nepal and Sirsiya River which is an ultimate drainage of these waste water streams. The adsorption of hexavalent chromium from aqueous solution onto formaldehyde treated sawdust and charcoal of sugarcane begasses has been investigated at various Cr(VI) concentrations of 5-40 mg/L and pH values. From the experimental observations, it has been found that chromium can be removed quantitatively at the equilibrium pH range of around 1 and the adsorption behavior revealed to follow Langmuir and Freundlich adsorption isotherms. Keywords : chromium, diphenylcarbazide, adsorption. DOI: 10.3126/jncs.v23i0.2102 Journal of Nepal Chemical Society, Vol. 23, 2008/2009 Page; 93-101

TL;DR: Paracetamol with 1-napthol or resorcinol was investigated spectrophotometrically in this article, where the molar absorptivity and Sandell's sensitivity were found to be 2.86×10 4 Lmol -1 cm −1 and 5.3 ngmL −1 cm -2, respectively.
Abstract: Paracetamol with 1-napthol or resorcinol gave azodye and the concentration of paracetamol was investigated spectrophotometrically. The azodyes formed with both 1-napthol and resorcinol as coupling agents follow Lambert Beer's law in the range of 0 to 10 µgmL -1 of paracetamol. The molar absorptivity and Sandell's sensitivity for azodye coupled with 1-napthol were found to be 1.68×10 4 Lmol -1 cm -1 and 9.0 ngmL -1 cm -2 , respectively. The molar absorptivity and Sandell's sensitivity for azodye coupled with resorcinol were found to be 2.86×10 4 Lmol -1 cm -1 and 5.3 ngmL -1 cm -2 , respectively. Both coupling agents had been applied successfully in the analysis of paracetamol in pharmaceutical preparation. The relative standard deviation for all five samples ranged from 2.2-6.4% at 95% confidence. The percentage recoveries were found to range from 97.8 to 103.4. Both methods used in the present study may be applied to the determination of trace amount of paracetamol in different clinical samples. TL;DR: From the flowers of Sarcococca coriacea, a triterpenoic acid, oleanolic acid, a pentahydric sugar alcohol, xylitol along with the mixture of steroidal glycosides, stigmasterol-3-O-β-D-glucopyranoside and β-sitosterol- 3-O -β -Dglucophyranoide have been isolated by chromatographic technique as mentioned in this paper.
Abstract: From the flowers of Sarcococca coriacea , a triterpenoic acid, oleanolic acid, a pentahydric sugar alcohol, xylitol along with the mixture of steroidal glycosides, stigmasterol-3-O-β-D-glucopyranoside and β-sitosterol-3-O-β-D-glucopyranoside have been isolated by chromatographic technique. Their structures were established on the basis of IR, 1 H-NMR, 13 C-NMR, spectral data as well as melting point and Co-TLC comparison with the authentic samples. TL;DR: All orchid extracts showed good bacterial Zone of Inhibition (ZOI) against Staphylococcus aureus and crude extracts of Pholidota imbricata and Coelogyne cristata were shown highest activity against Vibrio cholerae and StaphyllococcusAureus respectively.
Abstract: Antibacterial activities of different extracts of epiphytic orchids were tested against 5 species of bacteria and antifungal activities were tested against 3 species of fungi. All orchid extracts showed good bacterial Zone of Inhibition (ZOI) against Staphylococcus aureus. The crude extracts of Pholidota imbricata and Coelogyne cristata were shown highest activity against Vibrio cholerae and Staphylococcus aureus respectively. The MIC and MBC value of the extracts of Pholidota imbricata and Coelogyne cristata were found to be 62.5 mg/ml, 31.25 mg/ml and 125 mg/ml, 250 mg/ml against Vibrio cholerae and Staphylococcus aureus respectively. Only Pholidota imbricata and Pholidota articulata extracts were shown fairly good activity but all others extracts were shown very less activity or even failed to show any activity against fungal organisms.
