TL;DR: In this article, the presence of religion in skeletoning the US foreign policy under the George W. Bush presidency and its effect on the USMiddle Eastern political relationships is highlighted, with the implication of Bush's faith, the president's foreign policy has been ultimately characterized by an evangelical presidential style and addressed domestically or internationally by extensive use of religious rhetoric.
Abstract: The eager towards maintaining all initiatives linked to globalization and international power has permitted nations to interrupt the use of religion in framing its foreign policy agenda. Such use, though some countries consider as a part of the nation’s defense strategy, has characterized the new millennium by a massive disorder threatening international political stability. This geopolitical situation forces researchers to go further in questioning the intercourse between the faith-based foreign policy constructing process and the soft, hard, and smart powers used by nations. The present paper highlights the presence of religion in skeletoning the US foreign policy under the George W. Bush presidency and its effect on the USMiddle Eastern political relationships. With the implication of Bush’s faith, the paper identifies how the president’s foreign policy has been ultimately characterized by an evangelical presidential style and addressed domestically or internationally by extensive use of religious rhetoric.

TL;DR: In this paper, a flipped cooperative classroom model (FCCM) is introduced for reading comprehension in Thai EFL university students, where course inputs are learned through online before classroom, and the classroom time is used for more individual practice and group activities.
Abstract: Reading skills are important not only for academic achievement but also for professional development. However, some Thai EFL university students have been found to have relatively low reading comprehension ability, even with those majoring in English. Major causes include lack of reading strategies, improper instructional method, and learning environment. Although providing reading strategies has commonly been used to improve reading comprehension, it is usually effective when providing suitable environments for learning and practicing. Therefore, an alternative instructional method needs to be used in order to provide enhancing learning environments for the maximum learning outcomes. In this study, a Flipped Cooperative Classroom Model (FCCM) is introduced. With this instructional approach, course inputs are learned through online before classroom, and the classroom time is used for more individual PEOPLE: International Journal of Social Sciences ISSN 2454-5899 239 practice and group activities. Moreover, both online and classroom learning modes are supported by cooperative activities which help improve reading ability through the group learning process. The objective of this study was to investigate the effectiveness of the FCCM model. The study was implemented with a group of Thai EFL university English-majored students at Nakhon Ratchasima Rajabhat University, through a Reading Comprehension course. The effectiveness of the model was assessed by comparing reading comprehension between the experimental group, learning through the FCCM instructions, and the control group, who learned with conventional classroom. Opinions of students learning with the FCCM method were also investigated. The results showed significant improvement in reading comprehension of the experimental group in comparison to the other group, as well as positive opinions about learning experiences with FCCM.

TL;DR: The impact of learning analytics on student’s performance is investigated with main focus on course assessment reports of core course which are (a) technology management and (b) operation management.
Abstract: The fast pace of big data analytics advancement makes it necessary for any organization to coincide it with their management and measurement process. It has become essential for education sectors to analyze this for the development of both learning and academic activities (Shikha. A, 2014). Learning analytics (LA) is the measurement and analysis of the collection of data with regards to learners and their context for making learning more effective. LA is much concern with improving learner’s success. Four dimensions have been identified; data and environment, stakeholders, objectives, and methods. This paper investigates the impact of learning analytics on student’s performance. The focus group was students in Technology Management program at UTM SPACE, Kuala Lumpur. Two research objective has been identified; (i) to find the level of LA understanding among academic staff and (ii) to investigate the relationship between learning analytics and student performance. The research focused on (i) data collection and population at Centre of Diploma Studies, UTM SPACE, KL; (ii) the selected sample will be students in Technology Management’s program; (iii) the research PEOPLE: International Journal of Social Sciences ISSN 2454-5899 Available Online at: http://grdspublishing.org/ 458 focused on learning analytics with main focus on course assessment reports of core course which are (a) technology management and (b) operation management.

TL;DR: The second intifada not only triggered a great hostility and intensive debate among Jerusalem, but also revealed a series of reasons contributing to increasingly descend in mutual suspicion, discontent, and conflicts as discussed by the authors.
Abstract: The leader of the Likud Party in Israel, Ariel Sharon, made a contentious visit to the Temple Mount in Jerusalem on September 28, 2000. Such an unprecedented move immediately gave rise to the outbreak of the second intifada, in which the President of Palestinian Authority, Yasser Arafat, unleashed Palestinian militias as a defensive response to Sharon's inconsiderate behavior. The second intifada not only triggered a great hostility and intensive debate among Jerusalem, but also revealed a series of reasons contributing to increasingly descend in mutual suspicion, discontent, and conflicts. The researcher used secondary resources, such as articles, media, and books, to examine explanations of the failure to unite Israel and Palestine, which were divided into the failure of the past attempts, and negotiations giving endless space for governors to enact self-centered policies continued illegal military occupation over Palestinian territory, and conventional as well as obstinate demanding and belief in Jerusalem. However, this political and ethical struggle also helped to appeal to combined emotion of indignation and worry from younger generations to their domestic respondents, as well as inferred the danger and urgency to have a third-party helping to detail an effective and explicit resolution to reverse the status quo.

TL;DR: In this article, the importance of introducing a gender approach in educational curricula is discussed, and some European countries have been developing efforts to include gender equality as a topic or as an interdisciplinary subject in school curricula.
Abstract: This research is related to the importance of introducing a gender approach in educational curricula. The 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development has defined in its 4 th goal the need to ensure inclusive and equitable quality education and promote lifelong learning opportunities for all. This means that educational systems should have in mind the need to introduce gender debate in different areas of educations, from teacher training to subject knowledge definition, to change traditional gender roles and stereotypes. Using a qualitative research methodology based in documental analyses it will be presented how some European countries have been developing efforts to include gender equality as a topic or as an interdisciplinary subject in school curricula. The research focus on how these efforts are happening in Portugal and how school curricula are not involved in it – and this is an important challenge to be met by policy makers. Some recommendations are issued to foster the goal of gender equality as a tool to improve quality in education and contribute to a more balanced society in terms of gender representation.

TL;DR: This article presented a literature review on selected popular histories that examined commodities, for instance, Sidney W. Mintz's Sweetness and Power (1986), Roy Moxham's Tea: Addiction, Exploitation, and Empire (2004) and James Walvin's Fruits of Empire: Exotic Produce and British Taste, 1660-1800 (1997).
Abstract: Imperial commodities have been the subject of both popular and scholarly histories in recent years. A considerable amount of literature has been published on commodities such as tea, coffee, sugar, chocolate, tobacco, and spices such as pepper and cloves. Those commodity histories reveal the lure of exotics for Europeans, importantly the Portuguese, Dutch, Spanish and British, who engaged at various times in commercial imperialism, colonialism, capitalism, slave labour, commodity democratisation, changing diets and changing food habits. This paper presents a literature review on selected popular histories that examined commodities, for instance, Sidney W. Mintz’s Sweetness and Power (1986), Roy Moxham’s Tea: Addiction, Exploitation, and Empire (2004) and James Walvin’s Fruits of Empire: Exotic Produce and British Taste, 1660-1800 (1997). This literature review will help us to understand commodity histories literature in a broader perspective.

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors employ a thematic meta-synthesis method to investigate whether or not women political inclusion in political institutions furthers gender equality in Rwandan society, and they find that high women's political participation may not translate into gender equality.
Abstract: Informed by the theory of women’s political representation, the present paper employs a thematic meta-synthesis method to investigate whether or not women political inclusion in political institutions furthers gender equality in Rwandan society. The main findings suggest that Rwanda has achieved high political representation of women, which may increase power for some women by allowing them to have a greater voice in society and access to education. However, numerous women do not ensure gender equality in all spheres of life as they continue to suffer excessively from politico-ethnic exclusion, unemployment, poverty, heavy domestic responsibilities, genderbased violence, and lack of access to health care services. Legal changes and policies designed to promote gender equality are unquestionably worsening. Although an underlying economic rationale remains leading, gender policies and strategies are implemented with attention to quantitative results rather than qualitative outcomes. Our findings suggest that the current statistics on the gender gap do not express the real situation of Rwandan women. Besides, these findings PEOPLE: International Journal of Social Sciences ISSN 2454-5899 Available Online at: http://grdspublishing.org/ 358 yield a theory that high women's political participation may not translate into gender equality. Future research should aim to explore possible solutions to the identified problems.

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors studied the corruptor fight back in the corruption eradication commission of the Republic of Indonesia (CEC) and determined the ideal design and strategy to prevent and fight any corruptors fight back.
Abstract: The Corruption Eradication Commission of the Republic of Indonesia (CEC) is a state institution established with the aim of improving the effectiveness of efforts to eradicate corruption. With a clear juridical foundation and real achievement, the CEC is considered successful in meeting public expectations in eradicating corruption in Indonesia. Even so, the CEC's corruption eradication agenda experienced many obstacles from those who were against corruption eradication. The parties are always trying to weaken the CEC institution even there are also efforts to dissolve the CEC. Various attempts to weaken the CEC are called corruptor fight back. But unfortunately, the incessant corruptors fight back are not matched by the CEC's readiness in dealing with the fight back. Not yet identified the pattern of corruptor fight back is one indication of the weakness of the CEC in the face of the corruptor fight back. Therefore, there are three objectives of this study namely; First, learn the forms of the corruptor fight back. Second, read the workings of the corruptor fight back. Third, determine the ideal design and strategy to prevent and fight any corruptors fight back.

TL;DR: In this article, the authors describe the engagement process in the design of occupational standards challenging the notion that foreign expertise and influence should be unfettered, arguing that these interventions must be cultural appropriate and look towards creating a sustainable future where indigenous PEOPLE are given equal standing.
Abstract: Foreign expertise holds a revered status in the Indonesian Further Education and Training sector, with the notion of ‘Bule’ playing a pivotal role in how international interventions are resourced. Foreign expertise often brings with it many local assumptions, particularly around the sharing of contemporary and start-of-the-art western knowledge, but often in reality this is not practically manifested. It is for these reasons that Maconick (1999) contends that greater emphasis needs to be placed on defining the operational role of local capacity building. The authors believe that greater emphasis should be placed on building local human capital, and this paper describes the engagement process in the design of occupational standards challenging the conception that foreign expertise and influence should be unfettered. While foreign skills and talent can play a pivotal role in developing local human capability, it must be recognised that these interventions must be cultural appropriate and look towards creating a sustainable future where indigenous PEOPLE: International Journal of Social Sciences ISSN 2454-5899 122 human resources are given equal standing. The methodology applied reflected a ‘most significant change approach’ (Dart & Davies, 2003) to the evaluation of training methods with an emphasis on workplace engagement.

TL;DR: Wang et al. as mentioned in this paper determined the relationship between five key factors (hotel facilities, service capability, service efficiency, service attitude, and breakfast) to the degree of the customer satisfaction with the hotel.
Abstract: The significance of the customer satisfaction management in the hotel industry has been demonstrated by many researchers in the past decades. This study determined the relationship between five key factors (hotel facilities, service capability, service efficiency, service attitude, and breakfast) to the degree of the customer satisfaction with the hotel. These factors were conceptualized from the five dimensions of tangibility, reliability, responsiveness, assurance, and empathy in the SERVQUAL model proposed by Parasuraman, Zeithamal & Berry (1988). Empirical research was conducted in one of the international hotels in Chenzhou City, Hunan Province, China, focusing on the hotel’s customer satisfaction management. The data were taken from the two online reservation websites that reviewed the hotel based on the SERVQUAL model from 2017 to 2018. Multiple linear regression analysis was used to determine the relationship between the five key factors and the degree of customer satisfaction based on about 1,500 online comments. Only two (service capability and service attitude) of the five key factors turned out to PEOPLE: International Journal of Social Sciences ISSN 2454-5899 926 have significant positive effects on the customer satisfaction in this hotel. Two other factors (hotel facilities and breakfast) have no significant positive effects, while service efficiency has an unexpected no significant negative effect on this hotel’s customer satisfaction. This study offers some suggestions for improving the future decision-making for the customer satisfaction management of this hotel and also provides a guide for other enterprises experiencing the similar situation with the mutual benefits for avoiding the mistakes in customer satisfaction management so as to improve the overall performance of the hotel.

TL;DR: The major finding was that slow learners were more successful by providing suitable conditions and educational opportunities to them by applying an inspiring quote from the universal scientist Albert Einstein saying "I never teach my pupils", which helps to solve this universal problem.
Abstract: Education plays an important role in a country's development. Parents strongly feel that learning should be cultivated among their children. A teacher can make this become true with his teaching efficiency. But sometimes they may fail to do such due to different reasons. There are different types of learners such as fast learners, average learners, and slow learners. This learning difficulty may arise from poor memory, unawareness about the importance of education and lack of fundamental knowledge and psychological factors. If the teacher can bring out the children's inner talents through the use of different conditions, slow learners will be happier at learning. This article tries to solve this universal problem by applying an inspiring quote from the universal scientist Albert Einstein saying \"I never teach my pupils. I only attempt to provide the conditions in which they can learn\". Data was collected through the Case study method. Counseling was used as a tool for their enhancement. The major finding was that slow learners were more successful by providing suitable conditions and educational opportunities to them. PEOPLE: International Journal of Social Sciences ISSN 2454-5899

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors investigated the differences in learning style preferences of students of public Colleges of Education (CoEs) in the Central-Western Zone of Ghana based on their personal characteristics (sex, level of study and college setting), and how these personal characteristics influence the students' choice of learning style preference.
Abstract: The study investigated the differences in learning style preferences of students of public Colleges of Education (CoEs) in the Central-Western Zone of Ghana based on their personal characteristics (sex, level of study and college setting), and how these personal characteristics influence the students’ choice of learning style preference. The study adopted the cross-sectional survey design. Purposive and random sampling techniques were used to sample 1,396 students from five public CoEs. Frequencies with percentages, independent samples t-test, and regression and ANOVA were used to analyse the data. Generally, a combination of visual, auditory and kinaesthetic learning styles were preferred by the students. Statistically significant differences in the learning style preferences of the students in terms of their sex and setting of college were observed. However, there were no statistically significant differences in the students’ learning style preferences based on their level of study. Again, a statistically significant positive influence of students’ demographic variables on their learning style preferences was established even though the influence was very small. It was concluded that most of the students prefer the use of more than one learning style, and so tutors must comprehend differentiated learning of their students in order to adopt different teaching and assessment techniques to suit the learning needs of the PEOPLE: International Journal of Social Sciences ISSN 2454-5899 Available Online at: http://grdspublishing.org/ 593 students. It was recommended among others that tutors should encourage students to adopt multiple learning styles and effective study habits to enhance their academic endeavours.

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors presented one of the flaws in the system as two members of ASEAN (Philippines and Thailand) have different existing laws, lack laws in accordance with international conventions, and weak implementations of effective laws that led to the increase and abuse of undocumented Filipino workers in Thailand.
Abstract: The Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) is in the final stages of its planning for integration in the year 2025 (Valente, 2013; Novio, 2012). Different issues arise on how the focus on economic development can affect social development and impact the human rights of ASEAN citizens (Valente, 2013). One of the issues that are discussed is on migrant workers. The Philippine government sees the integration as an opportunity for more jobs since there will be an increase of exchange on economic goods, yet other labour groups see it as a “further implementation of neoliberal polcies” (Labog in Valente 2013). The ASEAN Convention on Migrant Workers (ACMW) is focused on creating and implementing policies for skilled migrant ASEAN citizens, and the accreditation of their qualifications among ASEAN members, while there was very few mentioned on unskilled and undocumented workers (Chalamwong, 2012; Hall et. al., 2012; Valente, 2013). This research presents one of the flaws in the system as two members of ASEAN (Philippines and Thailand) have different existing laws, lack laws in accordance with international conventions, and weak implementations of effective laws that led to the increase and abuse of undocumented Filipino workers in Thailand. The research will challenge both states as to accountability and their action plans to change the conditions of Filipino migrant workers, and then improve the policies on ACMW for the benefit of all undocumented workers in the region. TL;DR: In this paper, a case study action research method and applied interventions in a classroom of 20 graphic design students, underpinned by Cultural Responsive Teaching pedagogy, were carried out to scaffold students' learning of the selected Malaysian cultural art forms.
Abstract: In graphic design education, students are trained for the industry through practising and applying graphic design principles in various classroom and real life projects. While possessing the knowledge of these principles is important, the researcher, through her experience as a graphic design educator in Malaysia, finds that Malaysian students also need to have some knowledge and understanding of their own local, cultural art forms. This is because it could open more doorways for a designer to produce creative ideas that would be more relevant to the local audience. Therefore, in order to enhance her students’ knowledge and understanding of some Malaysian cultural art forms, the researcher used a case study action research method and applied interventions in her classroom of 20 graphic design students, underpinned by Cultural Responsive Teaching pedagogy. Various PEOPLE: International Journal of Social Sciences ISSN 2454-5899 557 activities were carried out to scaffold students’ learning of the selected Malaysian cultural art forms. The activities were, a visit to a contemporary Malaysian art exhibition; participation in a batik workshop; a visit and hands-on experience making some craft work at a Mah Meri cultural village, and attending a talk about wayangkulit, as well as viewing some wayangkulit exhibits. Upon the completion of all activities, the students produced a work of design based on a local social/environmental/health issue of their choice. The researcher sought to find out if the students applied their knowledge of Malaysian cultural art forms into their work of design. Findings from studying the students’ design work show that not all of them applied the knowledge that they had gained from the activities. However, through focus group interviews, most students express that their knowledge has been enriched by participating in those activities.

Abstract: In the nineteenth century the process of history professionalization took place. It was characterized by exclusive development of the discipline. The “founding fathers” tried to bold the borderlines between the history and other disciplines and sharpen the focus of historical researches. Just this view was reflected in fact of choosing archival data and official documents as only reliable type of sources and also the established view about the honest academic enabling to represent “what actually happened” formula proposed by L.Ranke. In the twentieth century subject of history was conceptualized in a new way. This was an epoch of so-called “New History” which had introduced interdisciplinary approach in historical research. The new generation of historians developed interest to the topics which in recent past might be treated as not relevant for the academic occupation. In this very context appeared necessity of literary sources’ use. This search for new sources was favoured by the coincidence in time with dispute about historicity of literature. The part of practitioners of history ignored it and preferred to make history in a traditional way, i.e. in spirit of Rankean historiography. This was case at least in Georgia and it continued to be the same in nowadays. The paper aims to fill (of course only partially) this gap in Georgian scholarship. It uses one monument of nineteenth century PEOPLE: International Journal of Social Sciences ISSN 2454-5899 Available Online at: http://grdspublishing.org/ 599 Georgian literary fiction for reconstructing of reality and elaborates on more general topic concerning the realistic prose as important source for history representation.

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors discuss the ASEAN centrality in region as a form of maritime security cooperation without any country feeling left behind to accommodate all nations within the region, focusing upon the challenges of the Indo-Pacific region, non-traditional oceanic threats like piracy and particularly related to the maritime strife, namely South China Sea dispute.
Abstract: The emergence of Indo-Pacific terminology leads to an interesting path of cooperation within the arena between countries. The Indo-Pacific region, marked by the cross-geography of the Indian and Pacific Oceans, is home to some of the most diverse populations, international trade and global exports. Some countries have been questioned about the importance of this area, namely the U.S., Australia, Japan, People's Republic of China (PRC), India, and the states in the Southeast Asia. A few sea districts, such as the South China Ocean, have contended most over the Indo-Pacific, and the Indian sea over the Malacca Strait has been a source of expanding oceanic security dangers. This paper focuses upon the challenges of the Indo-Pacific region, non-traditional oceanic threats like piracy and particularly related to the maritime strife, namely South China Sea dispute. The method used on this research is a qualitative method with a analytical descriptive approach. The purpose of this study is to discuss the ASEAN centrality in region as a form of maritime security cooperation without any country feeling left behind to accommodate all nations within the region. This new nomenclature reflects a glimpse of ASEAN's spirit as an ecosystem of peace, stability, and prosperity, including in addressing the region's inclusiveness and connectivity. The conclusion of the study indicates that ASEAN’s initiative PEOPLE: International Journal of Social Sciences ISSN 2454-5899 255 needs to be addressed within the Indo-Pacific if the idea is increasingly institutionalized and major powers collaborate more closely.
