••
TL;DR: It was demonstrated that methacholine-induced contraction of central (trachea) and peripheral (small bronchi) airway smooth muscle preparations was antagonised by pirenzepine, AF-DX 116, 4-DAMP methobromide, hexahydrosiladifenidol, and methoctramine with pA2-values characteristic of M3 (smooth muscle/glandular) muscarinic receptors.

TL;DR: The cough sound gives information about the pathophysiological mechanisms of coughing by indicating the structural nature of the tissue during therapy that leads to certain patterns of cough.

••
TL;DR: It is concluded that in guinea-pigs both capsaicin-sensitive (probably C-fibre endings) and capsaicIn-resistant (probably rapidly adapting stretch receptors) afferent neurons may be involved in cough and reflex bronchoconstriction.
