TL;DR: The importance of examining stakeholder theory from a variety of international perspectives and how this type of research will advance management theory has been discussed in this article, where the authors provide a brief overview of stakeholder theories.
Abstract: Objective – This article provides a brief overview of stakeholder theory, clears up some widely held misconceptions, explains the importance of examining stakeholder theory from a variety of international perspectives and how this type of research will advance management theory, and introduces the other articles in the special issue. Design/methodology/approach – Some of the foundational ideas of stakeholder theory are discussed, leading to arguments about the importance of the theory to management research, especially in an international context. Findings – Stakeholder theory is found to be a particularly useful perspective for addressing some of the important issues in business from an international perspective. It offers an opportunity to reinterpret a variety of concepts, models and phenomena across may different disciplines. Practical implications – The concepts explored in this article may be applied in many contexts, domestically and internationally, and across business disciplines as diverse as economics, public administration, finance, philosophy, marketing, law, and management. Originality/value – Research on stakeholder theory in an international context is both lacking and sorely needed. This article and the others in this special issue aim to help fill that void.

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors investigated the relationship between employees' perception about the external CSR practices of their organizations and employees' organizational commitment (affective) and job engagement, organization engagement, organizational citizenship behavior related to the individual, and organizational citizenship behaviour related to an organization in the context of the Saudi banking industry.
Abstract: Purpose – The study investigates the relationship between employees’ perception about the external CSR practices of their organizations and employees’ organizational commitment (affective) and job engagement, organization engagement, organizational citizenship behavior related to the individual, and organizational citizenship behavior related to the organization in the context of the Saudi banking industry. Design/methodology/approach – The study draws its theoretical groundwork from social identity theory (Tajfel & Turner, 1979) and social exchange theory (Blau, 1964). Data were collected through survey questionnaire, and the Mediation regression analysis is used for exploring the relationship between independent and dependent variables based on Baron & Kenny’s (1986) method. Findings – The study observes a positive relationship between perceived CSR and organizational commitment, employee engagement and organizational citizenship behavior related to organization. However, the organizational citizenship behavior related to the individual is not observed to have linked to perceived CSR. Originality/value – The uniqueness of this study lies on its framework and a particular aspect of CSR measurement. It conceptualizes one integrated model to build a relationship among CSR, organizational commitment, employee engagement and OCB. As the study views CSR as a competitive tool for the organizations, here the CSR activities are measured in relative rather than absolute terms, stand-alone act of an organization.

TL;DR: In this article, the authors assess the role of sustainable and social values as precursors of social innovation orientation and examine how attitude, subjective norms and entrepreneurship self-efficacy influence intentions of beginning a social entrepreneurship venture among Mexico residents.
Abstract: Purpose – The purpose of our investigation is threefold. First, we assess the role of sustainable and social values as precursors of social innovation orientation, while taking into account interests as to financial returns. Second, we examine the role of social innovation orientation as an antecedent of a social entrepreneurship attitude. Third, we examine how attitude, subjective norms and entrepreneurship self-efficacy influence intentions of beginning a social entrepreneurship venture among Mexico residents. Design/methodology/approach – We conducted 745 surveys among low-income Mexico residents who expressed interest in initiating a social entrepreneurship venture. We used structural equation modeling to test the hypothesized model. Findings – Results showed the positive influence of social values on social innovation orientation, while taking into account the influence of financial interests. Social innovation orientation, an attitude toward social entrepreneurship, entrepreneurial self-efficacy and subjective norms were identified as positive predictors of social entrepreneurial intentions. Originality/value – The paper provides useful information about the importance of values to understanding social innovation orientation and social entrepreneurship intentions.
