TL;DR: In this paper, the authors discuss the nature of human competence and the main factors that explain its expression at work, based on the framework of cognitive approaches as those related to the attribution of cause, the study of the relations between attitude and behavior and learning in organizations.
Abstract: Competence is a complex and multifaceted concept, which may assume different meanings. The objective of this paper is to discuss the nature of the human competence and the main factors that explain its expression at work, based on the framework of cognitive approaches as those related to the attribution of cause, the study of the relations between attitude and behavior and learning in organizations. Similarities and relationships between concepts and proposals from different theoretical approaches are presented, in order to understand the causes and consequences of competence. The influence of learning and organizational support on the development and the mobilization of competences is also discussed. Even thought this concept has emerged in the Business Administration area, some theories, studies and proposals from others areas of knowledge, as Social and Organizational Psychology, may help to interpret and to understand the nature of the human competence and its components. Since the study about this concept is in evidence and its theoretical support still needs empirical inquiry, a research agenda is suggested at the end of the paper. KEYWORDS Competence; Performance; Behavior at work; Learning; Organizational support.

TL;DR: In this article, the determinants of capital structure using panel data, for a sample of 388 companies belonging to the seven larger economies of Latin America (Mexico, Brazil, Argentina, Chile and Peru), in the period 2001-2006, were investigated.
Abstract: Recent researches have been evidenced that specific country factors, as legal, institutional and economical environments influence the capital structure of the companies. The present study investigates the determinants of capital structure using panel data, for a sample of 388 companies belonging to the seven larger economies of Latin America (Mexico, Brazil, Argentina, Chile and Peru), in the period 2001-2006. Starting from six indicators of leverage ratio, it was evidenced that the firm-specific factors: current liquidity, profitability, market to book value and size, present the most significant results. The theory of pecking order seems to be the one that best explains the obtained results. The results for macroeconomic and institutional factors were not so robust, but for the variable GDP growth, and at a lower degree for proxies about the relevance of the stock market, fiscal load and time of opening of a new business.

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors describe a teoria funcionalista dos valores humanos and a relaciona com variaveis importantes for as organizacoes.

TL;DR: This article proposed the notion of collective experience of inclusion, the aggregated degree to which members of a group feel valued by, engaged with, and able to express themselves authentically within their work group, both as individuals and as members of multiple identity groups.
Abstract: This conceptual paper addresses the presumed interactive effects of work group inclusion and diversity on work group performance. Building on prior theory and research focusing on individual-level inclusion, we put forth the construct of collective experience of inclusion, the aggregated degree to which members of a group feel valued by, engaged with, and able to express themselves authentically within their work group, both as individuals and as members of multiple identity groups. We propose that collective experience of inclusion will be positively associated with indicators of the group's performance. This relationship, we further propose, will be moderated by the diversity of the group's membership, such that, as diversity increases, the positive effects of the collective experience of inclusion on performance will be enhanced. Finally, we propose that variation in the degree to which individuals experience inclusion in the group, as assessed with an index of dispersion in the experience of inclusion, will further moderate this effect, and attenuate the positive interactive effects of collective experience of inclusion and diversity on performance.
