TL;DR: In this paper, a conceptual and practical approach to Structural Equation Models (SEMs) is described, which are a combination of factor analysis and multiple regression and are composed of two components: the measurement model and the structural model.
Abstract: This methodological article explains a conceptual and practical approach to Structural Equation Models or Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) SEMs are considered among the most powerful tools for the study of causal relationships in non-experimental data They are a combination of factor analysis and multiple regression and are composed of two components: the measurement model and the structural model The measurement model describes the relationship between a series of observable variables; while in the structural model the relationships between variables are hypothesized; ie, the relationships between latent variables are described with the use of arrows Performing a SEM involves five stages: (1) A specification of the Model; (2) Identification of the Model; (3) Estimation of the Model; (4) Evaluation of the Model and (5) Re-specification of the Model This article provides a series of guidelines on “best practices” for SEM analysis, with examples using the AMOS program

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors analyze the Spanish university education system to make a diagnosis of the reality and the pending challenges to achieve an inclusive university education for students with disabilities and other specific educational support needs.
Abstract: It is a reality that the International Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities recognizes the right to inclusive education. This reality is regulated by the General Law on the rights of persons with disabilities and their social inclusion. It is also a fact that university education is part of the Spanish education system and the provisions in the legislation on education are applicable to it. However, this basic and objective approach does not match the situation in which students with disabilities and other specific educational support needs who enter university find themselves in. In that sense, the objective of this paper is to analyze the Spanish university education system to make a diagnosis of the reality and the pending challenges to achieve an inclusive university education.

TL;DR: Aula universitaria de traduccion as mentioned in this paper, a la formación de traductores en Educación Superior, en particular, has been used to support the autoeficación.

TL;DR: Marper, Andres, and Rafa as mentioned in this paper presenta the result of a trabajo in which se analizaron the facilitadores and obstaculos that tres estudiantes con diversidad funcional identificaron durante their trayectoria in la universidad.

TL;DR: The paper shows how a vocational, highly-specialized project can be developed into a more transferable, more significant learning experience ( prospective approach) as a means of diversifying translation training curricula.
Abstract: This paper analyzes the potential benefits of including value-added services content as a means of diversifying translation training curricula. ‘Value-added service’ is a term used in the language industry (EN 15038, 2006; ISO 17100, 2015) to refer to an open catalogue of differentiated language services offered by Language Service Providers (LSP). Such services require the exercise of basic core translation and intercultural skills but also entail differences when compared to more general, conventional translation tasks. Differentiation factors include specific technological input and different processes, formats and managerial frameworks, each of which require specific skills from the language professional. From a situational perspective (Calvo, 2015; Gonzalez-Davies y Enriquez-Raido, 2016; Risku, 2002, 2009, 2016; Vienne, 1994), this paper reviews different approaches to the use of projects and portfolios in translator training contexts. An innovative, integrative work model is also presented, as a framework for bringing students into contact with different facets of the language industry today: e.g., marketing translation, editing, project management, post-editing, intercultural consulting, and transcreation. The paper thus shows how a vocational, highly-specialized project ( retrospective approach ) can be developed into a more transferable, more significant learning experience ( prospective approach ) (Calvo, 2015).

TL;DR: In this article, a didactica centred on the uso explicito de estrategias de aprendizaje socio-afectivas en un curso virtual de traduccion was presented.

TL;DR: The concept of aprendizaje movil and the irrupcion of the dispositivos moviles esta presente in la educación superior as discussed by the authors, con la participación of ocho docentes universitarios a traves de un grupo de discusion.

TL;DR: The authors studied the methodological approaches used in the classroom by 58 foreign language lecturers at 13 Translation and Interpreting Faculties in Spain, through a research project of Universidad de Las Palmas de Gran Canaria (Spain).
Abstract: Foreign language teaching and learning has received a considerable amount of scholarly attention across different stages of education, particularly in the case of English. Apart from language training in general contexts, language for special purposes also constitutes a prolific field of study. However, less research has been conducted on the foreign-language training needs of trainee translators and interpreters and the corresponding teaching methodologies. In order to gain insight into actual teaching practices in this area in Spanish universities, we have studied the methodological approaches used in the classroom by 58 foreign language lecturers at 13 Translation and Interpreting Faculties in Spain, through a research project of Universidad de Las Palmas de Gran Canaria (Spain). Information was compiled from the responses to an ad hoc questionnaire created for this purpose, sent out by email and filled out on a voluntary basis. This article describes the uses made of texts in foreign language classes, to which end we will focus on the responses to one of the questions posed in the questionnaire. One of the key findings of the study is the preponderance of lexical, semantic, morphological and syntactic features, potentially implying teaching methodologies akin to those used in other education settings.

TL;DR: A new method used in the classes of Accessible Translation in the Master of Professional Translation at the University of Granada to apply the modality of accessible translation into different tourist spaces and to innovate in the teaching of translation.
Abstract: The paper we present is the result of a new method used in the classes of Accessible Translation in the Master of Professional Translation at the University of Granada. This subject belongs to the unit of Audiovisual Translation and Accessibility developed since 2014 when this Master started. Our main goal was to apply the modality of accessible translation into different tourist spaces and to innovate in the teaching of translation. The methodology was based on the application of socio-constructivist theories in Accessible Translation. Specifically, we were to teach how to prepare the audio descriptions for two architectural spaces: the facade of the Granada Cathedral and the facade of the Sagrario Church, also in Granada. The audio description of these two spaces was the ideal context (macro text) for the students to go beyond the classroom, and to experience firsthand the epistemological process of translation, being able to create their target texts. In order to complete this process, the students conducted a reception study with a sight-impaired person who evaluated the accessible materials created in class. Two tools were used in the evaluation: a survey and an interview, both of which helped to measure profile variables, as well as the contents of the audio descriptions. The usefulness of these tools was expressed through the satisfaction of the sight-impaired person with the audio description presented, which met their expectations.

TL;DR: The first step in a Teaching Innovation Project in Universidad de Santiago de Chile, which includes the project's design and the methodological aspects required for its implementation and evaluation, was described in this article.
Abstract: This article describes the first step in a Teaching Innovation Project in Universidad de Santiago de Chile, which includes the project’s design and the methodological aspects required for its implementation and evaluation. Experts from different academic units will give students real translation assignments (specified in a translation brief) and will consult with them so as to contribute to the development of their thematic translation competence. This project will be implemented in the Specialized Social Science English-Spanish Translation course (4th year) of the Bachelor of Linguistics Applied to Translation degree program during the September 2017 semester. The proposal is based on contributions from Kiraly (2000) stating that the most effective way for students to develop professional competences is by offering them opportunities to interact with their classmates and with experts. Within this project, various methodological guidelines and assessment instruments—with different purposes, applied at different times, and from distinctive agents—were designed so as to meet the need to obtain a global picture of the entire process. The implementation of this didactic strategy will contribute to the systematization of a teaching practice which, although being used in translators’ training in Universidad de Santiago, lacks a formal design and specific assessment instruments that would allow replicating it in other specialized translation courses at a local and national level.

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors present the results of hypothesis number 4: whether the richness of the metalanguage used by the TI students evolves from the beginning to the end of their study program.
Abstract: This research is framed within the area of translation and interpreting studies and more specifically within the field of translation didactics. The general research objective of this study is to observe and analyze the repercussions of Translation undergraduate courses at five different universities in Spain. With empirical methods combining quantitative and qualitative analysis relying on a macro-study of more than 1,000 subjects and a longitudinal study of 37 students, the research focuses specifically on the development of the strategic competence (SC) and, particularly, the student’s capacity to identify and describe translation problems. Furthermore, in the case of the longitudinal study, four hypotheses were tested against the students’ answers. In this paper, we present the results of hypothesis number 4: whether the richness of the metalanguage used by the TI students evolves from the beginning to the end of their study program. The longitudinal study results do not show any patterns for the development of the SC, although the metalanguage used by students does evolve.

TL;DR: In this article, el contexto universitario espanol ha demandado adaptaciones in el rol del docente in relation with las nuevas tecnologias identificando the relevancia of the tutoria virtual como oportunidad for comprender otro sentido del proceso de ensenanza and aprendizaje.

TL;DR: In this article, a didactic experience aimed at the acquisition and development of interpreting skills through four theoretical and practical sessions on Public Service Interpreting (PSI) was described, where a healthcare professional takes part in the learning process with role-play exercises as a useful tool.
Abstract: The didactic experience we describe in this article aims at the acquisition and development of interpreting skills through four theoretical and practical sessions on Public Service Interpreting (PSI). This course is particular given that a healthcare professional takes part in the learning process, which is perfected with role-play exercises as a useful tool. The generous, active, and participative collaboration of these professionals had an influence both in the election of the cases analyzed in class—which were based on their own experiences with foreign patients—and in the assumption of their own professional roles in the dramatization exercises with students. The interaction with the doctors contributed to providing more realism and authenticity to the role-play activity and also facilitated the development of thematic, interpersonal, and strategic skills in students.

TL;DR: In this article, the authors describe the applications of a simulated yet realistic project, whereby students were asked to translate a German court summons into Spanish, where they can continue their specialization in the translation of legal texts from German into Spanish with greater autonomy and self-confidence by developing greater awareness of factors influencing the adequacy of decisions taken by the legal translator.
Abstract: This teaching experience was designed for and implemented in a university module on legal translator training in the German (as second foreign language or C language) - Spanish (first language or A language) language pair. It describes the applications of a simulated yet realistic project, whereby students were asked to translate a German court summons into Spanish. Following the main theories on textual genre (Borja, 2013; Orts, 2017), as applied to the pre-translation analysis of the communicative situation in legal translation (Prieto, 2013), trainee translators are able to develop their legal translation competence and to establish a decision-making framework (Way, 2014) that allows them to justify their solutions to the translation problems identified. Accordingly, they can continue their specialization in the translation of legal texts from German into Spanish with greater autonomy and self-confidence, by developing greater awareness of factors influencing the adequacy of decisions taken by the legal translator.
