Abstract: Ethnomathematics studies the cultural aspects of mathematics. It presents mathematical concepts of theschool curriculum in a way in which these concepts are related to the students’ cultural and daily experiences,thereby enhancing their abilities to elaborate meaningful connections and deepening their understanding ofmathematics. Ethnomathematical approaches to mathematics curriculum are intended to make schoolmathematics more relevant and meaningful for students and to promote the overall quality of their education.In this context, the implementation of an ethnomathematical perspective in the school mathematicscurriculum helps to develop students’ intellectual, social, emotional, and political learning by using their ownunique cultural referents to impart their knowledge, skills, and attitudes. This kind of curriculum providesways for students to maintain their identity while succeeding academically.ResumoA etnomatematica estuda os aspectos culturais da matematica. Apresenta os conceitos matematicos docurriculo escolar de uma maneira na qual esses conceitos estejam relacionados com as experiencias cultural ediaria dos alunos, reforcando, assim, a capacidade deles para elaborar conexoes significativas e aprofundar oentendimento da matematica. A abordagem etnomatematica no curriculo de matematica tem como objectivostornar a matematica escolar mais relevante e significativa para os alunos, promovendo a qualidade geral daeducacao. Nesse contexto, a implementacao da perspectiva etnomatematica no curriculo escolar dematematica auxilia no desenvolvimento do aprendizado intelectual, social, emocional e politico dos alunos aoutilizar as proprias referencias culturais para transmitir o conhecimento, as habilidades e as atitudes. Esse tipode curriculo fornece maneiras pelas quais os alunos mantem a propria identidade enquanto sao bem sucedidosacademicamente.

Abstract: En este articulo se presentan los objetivos de la teoria de la objetivacion, una teoria educativa que se ubica dentro de la gama de teorias socioculturales contemporaneas que intentan plantear la ensenanza y aprendizaje en terminos diferentes de aquellos abogados por las teorias educativas individualistas modernas y sus pedagogias centradas sobre el alumno. La primera seccion presenta una resena retrospectiva que intenta situar el contexto historico de emergencia de la teoria de la objetivacion. Luego se presentan sus objetivos y se discute la categoria conceptual fundamental de la teoria de la objetivacion: la categoria de labor o trabajo, en el sentido dialectico-materialista, categoria que permite reconceptualizar la ensenanza y aprendizaje en terminos de actividad o labor conjunta entre alumnos y profesores. Es dentro de este contexto que se discuten, al final del articulo, los constructos analiticos fundamentales de la teoria, a saber: objetivacion y subjetivacion

Abstract: The Program Ethnomathematics is a research program on the generation, individual and social organization and transmission and diffusion of knowledge. Those objectives include the traditional disciplines of the sciences of cognition (knowledge generation), of epistemology (organization of knowledge) and of history, sociology, politics and education (transmission and dissemination of knowledge). But differently from the traditional approach, the Program Ethnomathematics analyses these disciplines in an integrated, transdisciplinarian and transcultural way, with the theoretical support of the concept of cycle of knowledge.

Abstract: Mathematics used outside of the school may be considered as a process of ethnomodeling rather than a mere process of manipulation of numbers and procedures. The application of ethnomathematical techniques and the tools of modeling allow us to see a different reality and give us insight into mathematics done in a holistic way. In this perspective, the pedagogical approach that connects the cultural aspects of mathematics with its academic aspects is denominated ethnomodeling, which is a process of translation and elaboration of problems and questions taken from systems that are part of the students� reality.
