TL;DR: For 51 patients with rapid cycling affective disorder, clinical and family history data indicated that the illness was phenotypically and genetically related to more typical forms of affective disorders, was characterized by a bipolar course (100%), and was more common in women (92%).
Abstract: For 51 patients with rapid cycling affective disorder, clinical and family history data indicated that the illness was phenotypically and genetically related to more typical forms of affective disorder, was characterized by a bipolar course (100%), and was more common in women (92%). Manic-depressive cycles were separate from menstrual cycles. At the time of onset of rapid cycling, 73% of the patients were taking antidepressant drugs; the continuation of rapid cycling was associated with antidepressant drug therapy in 51% of the patients. Although most patients had been referred to a research ward because they were considered to be refractory to treatment, 37% attained essentially complete remissions, usually during treatment with lithium and/or monoamine oxidase inhibitors.

TL;DR: This article found that secondary mania patients with brain injury had a significantly greater frequency of injury to right hemisphere areas connected with the limbic system than poststroke patients with major depression, who had injury primarily in the left frontal cortex and basal ganglia.
Abstract: Patients who developed secondary mania after brain injury (N = 17) had a significantly greater frequency of injury to right hemisphere areas connected with the limbic system than poststroke patients with major depression (N = 31), who had injury primarily in the left frontal cortex and basal ganglia. For patients without mood disturbance after brain injury (N = 28), the location of the lesion was not significant. Secondary mania patients also had a significantly greater frequency of family history of affective disorder than did the other two groups. These results suggest that an interaction between injury to certain areas of the right hemisphere and genetic factors or other neuropathological conditions produces secondary mania.

TL;DR: In this article, the authors analyzed factors associated with the use of mental health services by homeless adults. But the majority had not made an outpatient mental health visit in 5 years and used alcohol and drugs the most.
Abstract: As part of a community-based survey of 529 homeless adults, the authors analyzed factors associated with their use of mental health services. Homeless persons who had had a previous psychiatric hospitalization were the least likely to sleep in an emergency shelter, had been homeless nearly twice as long as the rest of the sample, had the worst mental health status, used alcohol and drugs the most, and were the most involved in criminal activities. The majority had not made an outpatient mental health visit in 5 years. It is suggested that diverse systems of care are needed for homeless persons.

TL;DR: This note focuses on electronic reproduction of images, using video and computer graphics techniques and equipment, and deals mainly with the reproduction of intensity, or as a photographer would say, tone scale.
Abstract: In photography, video and computer graphics, the gamma symbol γ represents a numerical parameter that describes the nonlinearity of intensity reproduction. Gamma is a mysterious and confusing subject, because it involves concepts from four disciplines: physics, perception, photography, and video. In this note I will explain how gamma is related to each of these disciplines. Having a good understanding of the theory and practice of gamma will enable you to get good results when you create, process, and display pictures. This note focuses on electronic reproduction of images, using video and computer graphics techniques and equipment. However the discussions of perception and photography may be of general interest as well. This note deals mainly with the reproduction of intensity, or as a photographer would say, tone scale. This is one important step to achieving good color reproduction, but issues specific to color reproduction, but issues specific to color are covered elsewhere
