TL;DR: The topic of uniform resource identifiers and AACR2 was again raised, and CC:DA voted to form a task force to examine the issue, and a charge was officially issued on March 8, 2001.
Abstract: At the 2000 Annual Meeting, CC:DA was presented with a discussion paper, CC:DA/Attig/2000/1 (http://www.ala.org/alcts/organization/ccs/ccda/attig1.pdf). Section D of that paper presented some options for including provisions in AACR2 for uniform resource identifiers. CC:DA did not have enough time to discuss the paper and the options presented, and decided to continue the discussion at a later time. At the 2001 Midwinter Meeting, the topic of uniform resource identifiers and AACR2 was again raised, and CC:DA voted to form a task force to examine the issue. This task force was formed following the 2001 Midwinter Meeting and a charge was officially issued on March 8, 2001. The charge included five components:

TL;DR: This article will analyze various options and present projects undertaken at the University of New Mexico Libraries that aim to address the space crisis in the stacks, including a large scale inventory, weeding, reformatting, and the transfer of materials out of the library.
Abstract: Finding shelf space in an Association of Research Libraries library is an endeavor fraught with tensions. It presents an irreconcilable problem. On one hand, space is finite. On the other hand, we will continue to buy print books. Our tools for addressing this problem are limited and there are many competing interests. This article will analyze various options and present projects undertaken at the University of New Mexico Libraries that aim to address the space crisis in the stacks. They include a large scale inventory, weeding, reformatting, and the transfer of materials out of the library.

TL;DR: The study uses a survey augmented by multiple interviews to create and populate an inventory of data, able to identify and sort sources of data generated by library personnel based on type of data and library division.
Abstract: This article describes the need for and the processes used to create an inventory of data collected by an academic library. The study uses a survey augmented by multiple interviews to create and populate an inventory of data. The study was able to identify and sort sources of data generated by library personnel based on type of data (demographic, location, log, qualitative, and quantitative) and library division. It indicated the frequency of data collection and use, as well as where the data was stored. Finally, the inventory also identified types of data not currently collected but librarians would like to collect. The article indicates how the data inventory may be used to support planning and improve library operations.

TL;DR: This discussion illustrates how the functional requirements for bibliographic records-family user tasks inform services to all users and facilitates a programmatic approach to the catalog specifically and to services in general.
Abstract: This discussion illustrates how the functional requirements for bibliographic records-family user tasks inform services to all users. The user tasks are placed into a larger context called the want-find-get-manage framework. In combination with the user tasks, want-find-get-manage facilitates a programmatic approach to the catalog specifically and to services in general. By doing so, traditional bibliographic content and services may become more effective while opening avenues for new resources and services, such as those built around born-digital content and non-bibliographic metadata. As a result, libraries become full partners with users, enabling innovation, learning, and growth.

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors surveyed librarians and vendor professionals to determine strengths and weaknesses of these relationships, revealing, in some cases, conflicting priorities, and highlighted a need to explore the library-vendor relationship further.
Abstract: Academic library and vendor professionals were surveyed to determine strengths and weaknesses of these relationships—revealing, in some cases, conflicting priorities. The two groups offered perspectives on communication preferences, organizational strategies, priorities, and local challenges. Trends emerging from the survey results highlight a need to explore the library–vendor relationship further. This article will be of interest to academic librarians and staff working regularly with vendors in acquisitions or collection management.

TL;DR: Rough analysis is engaged in of how two storage models could be adjusted and adapted to fit a specific use case at the Northern Regional Library facility, drawing on the so-called “California” and “Harvard model.”
Abstract: This article is the first in a series exploring approaches to studying the storage density and overall efficiency (as measured in terms of number of items stored) in high density book storage facilities. The article explores foundational questions associated with increasing the number of items in high density configurations when using relatively traditional shelving facility. The parameters of the high density configuration draw on two storage models: the so-called “California” model, employed at the Northern Regional Library facility, and the “Harvard model.” Through initial analysis of the item sizing and shelving approaches of these models, this article engages in rough analysis of how these models could be adjusted and adapted to fit a specific use case at the Northern Regional Library facility. The article concludes with an analysis of potential methods for applying the theoretical findings in the real-world case of the Northern Regional Library facility through shelf-use analysis and real-world item...

TL;DR: In this article, the authors examined cases in the literature, determining best practices in e-resource budgeting and planning, and applying these, the Hunt Library at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University experienced better accuracy in on-demand acquisitions statistics and created a forecast for future eresource spending.
Abstract: Despite the myriad of new electronic resources and acquisitions models that have emerged in the 21st century, for many libraries the acquisitions budget remains structurally unchanged. Research reveals that the traditional, hierarchical budget structure may not be adequate for modern acquisitions, and that new concepts in budgeting and data collection are necessary for understanding e-resource costs. Through examining cases in the literature, determining best practices in e-resource budgeting and planning, and applying these, the Hunt Library at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University experienced better accuracy in on-demand acquisitions statistics and created a forecast for future e-resource spending.

TL;DR: The merger of two unique catalogs at Rutgers Law School has presented unique challenges with respect to migration mapping, data recall for large records, and relevancy ranking, all of which affect search results and usability of the Online Public Access Catalog.
Abstract: In 2015, Rutgers became only the second accredited law school in the United States to select the open-source integrated library system, Koha. The merger of two unique catalogs at Rutgers Law School has presented unique challenges with respect to migration mapping, data recall for large records, and relevancy ranking, all of which affect search results and usability of the Online Public Access Catalog. System migrations always result in some data being lost or incorrectly transferred. The hope is to minimize just how much data is compromised while fixing errors that might not have come to light but for the migration.

TL;DR: A study of dissertation cataloging practices of Association of Research Libraries academic libraries was conducted to discern how the libraries provide access to subjects as well as to names of academic departments and advisors.
Abstract: A study of dissertation cataloging practices of Association of Research Libraries academic libraries was conducted to discern how the libraries provide access to subjects as well as to names of academic departments and advisors. An analysis of catalog records revealed this information is recorded in notes and uncontrolled access points more often than in established access points. Although these local practices reflect a move toward cataloging efficiencies, they must be considered in the context of information retrieval.

TL;DR: In this article, the authors highlight technical services professionals' roles in library-wide assessments which can be replicated in small to medium-sized libraries and highlight the need for technical services librarians to contribute to assessment, offering their insights to enhance their library services.
Abstract: Assessment has become a necessity for academic libraries. Public services librarians do participate in assessment activities; however, technical services professionals who play a role in library-wide assessments are not widely reported. Although the line between public services and technical services has been blurred, the functions of technical services still exist and remain indispensable. Therefore, it is essential for technical services librarians to contribute to assessment, offering their insights to enhance their library services and demonstrate its value. This case study highlights technical services professionals' roles in library-wide assessments which can be replicated in small to medium-sized libraries.
