TL;DR: The Integrated Coastal Zone Management (ICZM) concept was developed during the last decades of the 20th century as discussed by the authors to make the intensive utilization of coastal zones sustainable, which is not aplicable, namely because coastal systems are open systems.
Abstract: Coastal zones are unique, irreplaceable ecosystems. They are the result of a long (millions of years) evolution. Since early times estuaries and coastal lagoons were intensively occupied by humans. However, sandy oceanic coast only started to be intensivelly occupied in the 19th and 20th centuries. Coastal management structures were not prepared for this sudden intensification in the utilization of coastal zones. Some decades were necessary to the management structures adquire conscience for the new reality and its consequences. In order to make the intensive utilization of coastal zones sustainable, a new concept was developed during the last decades of the 20th century: the Integrated Coastal Zone Management (ICZM). However, this concept is not aplicable, namely because coastal systems are open systems. What is possible, desirable and indispensable is the Integrated Territory Management (from wich ICZM have to be an important part).

Abstract: This article presents a model of the Critical Success Factors of a tourist destination located in the Caribbean area, where there are other destinations, some already well-established and others emerging. In this context, this research will be of value not only for understanding the attractions of the destination as a tourism offer from the customers' perspective, but also for the design of the most effective strategies and policies to ensure the sustainability of the destination, the competitiveness of the companies providing tourist services, etc., and for encouraging management chains to invest and participate in the area, and particularly in the destination studied. The methodology employed is that of Fuzzy Cognitive Maps based on a content analysis as a tool of strategic diagnosis; this is the principal contribution of the study. This approach has enabled us to reach important conclusions on the central elements to be strengthened in formulating differentiation strategies that would allow an integrated outcome for the destination, through those factors that should ensure its success.

TL;DR: In this article, the role of the agritourism management in developing the economy of rural areas in the province of Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada is analyzed and recommendations made from the results of this study provide new visions for policymakers to understand better the industry, recognize the impediments, and make appropriate decisions at the local and provincial level.
Abstract: It has been documented that the key features which relate rural regions to tourism development are twofold: poverty and lack of economic opportunities. Despite of substantial contribution the tourism and agritourism industries have made to the economy of rural areas, farm-managers have been facing a series of challenges, such as the turmoil of global economy, increased worldwide competition in output markets, high production costs arisen from increasing inputs prices, and lack of transparent rules and regulations imposed by the governmental agencies. As a result, farm-operators have been searching for alternative farm-oriented activities that potentially generate additional income to their on-farm revenues so that they can stay in such a highly competitive business. This paper analyzes the role of the agritourism management in developing the economy of rural areas in the province of Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada. The recommendations made from the results of this study provide new visions for policymakers to understand better the industry, recognize the impediments, and make appropriate decisions at the local and provincial level.

While in the practical part we analize, from recent investigations (period 2002-2005) about Knowledge Management programmes applied in different organizations, the main conclusions found in each study with the aim of, on the one hand, verifying if the advices about managing the knowledge in the different authors dealt are in consonance with reality; and, on the other hand, to learn from the experience of others and to propose some useful performance lines for every organization which decides to undertake the “adventure” of Knowledge Management.

Abstract: As mudancas paradigmaticas urbanas, a que se assistiu no final do seculo XX, conduziram a regeneracao dos centros historicos.

Abstract: Corporate ethic codes are increasingly important, as strategic management nowadays needs more and more business ethics in order to compete in the global market. The main purpose of this paper is to show how ethic codes are one of the most usual procedures to implement ethical behaviour on business. An overall view is presented, describing the pertinent concepts, the evolution and the functions of ethic codes, as well as its developing and implementation in the corporate environment. Finally, we argue the usual formal ethic codes, pointing to the advantages and disadvantages referred by some researchers.

TL;DR: In this article, the authors describe the evolution of tourism in Brazil by looking at the changes on the economic activities considered touristic in each period and compare some data on the contribution of tourism to the Brazilian economy.
Abstract: There are many difficulties to measure tourism. Among them is the intrinsic difficulty to define tourism, the fact that tourists usually take part in several different economic activities and the fact that often residents also participate in these activities. This paper aims at describing the evolution of tourism in Brazil by looking at the changes on the economic activities considered touristic in each period. The reason for doing that is to avoid the difficulties described above and make the measure of tourism in Brazil more precise. We also compare some data on the contribution of tourism to the Brazilian economy.
