The military special operations environment presents challenging circumstances for its assigned medical providers. Ultrasound has readily become one of the most important medical capabilities and is being used in the austere, resource-limited environment. Tactical considerations must be made during combat operations and the use of ultrasound; size, durability, and portability are all planning considerations. The absence of robust medical supply and equipment provides greater value to the versatility of ultrasound when conducting Prolonged Field Care – a delay in transport of a casualty to a higher echelon of medical care ranging from hours to days.
